Hi,

My Htc magic has started playing up.

Firstly, the screen has stopped locking. When i press the end call button the phone sleeps but the screen doesnt lock.

I do have the 'require pattern' etc selected in the settigs, so it should work.

it used to work, can anyone tell me how to get it back?

spare parts doesnt work.

Also, When i press and hold the end call button, the only option that appears is 'power off'. It used to say flight mode and silent mode too.

Finally it appears that my phone will not receive calls. texts and outgoings fine, but no calls

any help really would help, and i would like to avoid doing a hard reset. thanks!

Hi Stupsmith

Hmmm.... plenty to fix here biggrin.gif

What software version are you currently using on the handset? is this donut? If not can you try and update this first?

If you are already running the latest software version then we can only suggest you either back all the information up on the handset and do a factory reset or send the handset into ourselves so we can repair this for you.

Regarding the calls not working correctly then I would advise a hard reset on the handset this can be done by following these instructions:

Pull the battery out with the handset turned on
Remove the SIM card
Put the battery back into the handset without the SIM card and switch the handset on
Leave the handset switched on for 5minutes with no SIM in the handset
Remove the battery with the power still on
Put the SIM back into the handset and place the battery back in and turn on like normal.

If there is anything else you require, drop us a shout and we'll be in touch biggrin.gif

Thanks
Matthew

I should also probably add the phone info:

1.6 firmware
62,50s.20.17u_2.22.19.26i baseband
2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37 android-build@apa26 #19 kernel
build no. DRC92

It has happened before, about 6 months ago. I had to do a full reset then which fixed it.

I updated over a week ago and it only started to go wrong yesterday.

taking the sim out did not fix it, still cant receive calls.

Interestingly, the screen lock did reappear when the sim was out, but when i put it back in it had stopped again.

Hi stupsmith,

Thanks for getting back to us with that. smile.gif

You’ve got the most recent version and so I recommend you follow Matthews advice above and perform a factory reset.

You’ll need to make sure you back everything first (pictures, contacts etc) however this should sort it out.

Let us know how you get on. smile.gif

All the best,

Jenny

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me

Without being rude it seems the only advise you ccan offer to anyone is do a reset or send it to you.

As i have said, i really do not want to do a reset as i dont wanna back up and i have so many apps/widgets/wallpapers etc. Im not sure if you can or cant backup up apps, but if you cant then i will lose them all. i dont want that to happen

(yes i know i can reinstall from the market, but there are so many i wont remember them all!)

Thanks again!

Hi Stupsmith

The only fix we currently have for your issue would be a factory reset on your handset this is the only way your issue will get resolved.

I understand its frustrating to back everything up and re-install all your App's but we wouldn’t advise this unless we were out of other options and didn't believe that this would fix your phone biggrin.gif

I have previously encountered this exact same issue. A hard reset will only hold it off for a few weeks before it comes back again.

When this happened to me, I reported the issue to google, and they told me the only way to fix would be to re-flash the device, so I had to send it in for repairs with Vodafone.

So unfortunately, all you can do is send it in for repair. Vodafone was nice enough to supply a swap the following day, so I wasnt without a phone, but it depends on who you get on the phone I think....
