Hi,
I have yet to update the software on my N95 8GB. The current version I'm on is V 15.0.015 Not sure what Vodafone approved software to update to and where to get it. Could someone help? Many thanks |

Hmm...forum has wiped my detailed reply, that's somewhat irritating. Ok, here we go again...
Firstly download Nokia PC Suite and backup you phone - I'd use the main Nokia content copier but also make sure you have separate backups of anything important such as contacts, texts, images and videos to make sure you have it backed up in a format you can check. Next you need to download the firmware updater from Nokia's site here: http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate Plug your phone in and run the updater, it will find the latest Vodafone firmware, download it and update the phone. A word of warning, you can't reverse this process so if you're at all unhappy with the fimrware you're stuck with it so I'd check the release notes on it first. Vodafone are currently offering v21 firmware and are unlikely to provide the newest v30 firmware at any time in the future. In other words, if you want the lastest Nokia approved firmware (version 30) you will have to go through the hassle of debranding your phone as Vodafone dont seem intrested in branding and releasing it.
Ooops, another firmware thread containing criticism of Vodafone, best get it closed down sharpish.. This post has been edited by Richierichard: Nov 15 2008, 04:44 PM -------------------- Zigga Zagga, Zigga Zagga

Any chance this can be done on a Mac?? |

Hi there, Thanks to all for the replies. Any chance this can be done on a Mac?? Neither OSX nor Linux are supported so unfortunately not unless it's a newer Mac which is dual booting Windows. I have had problems with my N95 8GB since upgrading it to V20. I have held off since and found that Nokia has released an upgrade, which will improve the camera, music player and utube functionality. Does this mean Vodafone will not be releasing the branded upgrade in due course ? If not so I will have to return my handest under warranty to have the camera 'jitter' issues sorted. Any comments appreciated, An ex armchair forum reader

Any comments appreciated, An ex armchair forum reader It doesn't look likely based on comments from the eForum staff about the N95 8GB being discontinued, additionally many other 'active' S60 handsets are also running old firmwares (much older then v20) with no sign of upgrade. I can't find the recent topic where Vodafone mentioned this although I've obviously I'd wait for Vodafone to provide an official response before debranding. I'd be more than happy for Vodafone to prove me wrong.

Ok, found it here:
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?show...amp;#entry66754 QUOTE As Tom says the latest available firmware we have is 20.0.016 and being that the N96 is superceeding the N95 I have been reliably informed that there are no plans to release a newer version of the firmware At least they're being honest about it for a change. I and i'm sure many other Vodafone customers who are currently using handsets that the manufacturers have released firmware updates for would appreciate an explanation as to why these updates are not being provided...

This link contains the changelog for the v30 firmware:
http://thesymbianblog.com/2008/09/04/new-f...or-the-n95-8gb/ It's a surprisingly large update from Nokia given the N96 was on its way at the time, there's a few new features and quite a few improvments all round. It's likely to be the last major update from Nokia for the phone. John -------------------- Though I fly through the valley of death, I shall feel no fear for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing

But any that increase battery life would be gratefully recieved |

Just to add my bit to this subject, I've been patiently checking updater for availability of V30 for what seems like ages now. Could really do with this, not least the media player and flash improvements. And as this is evidently a major and final update it must be important.
I'm currently only half way through an 18 month contract and as phone is insured I can't debrand or I'll lose cover. It's been mentioned the N95 8GB is being discontinued as the N96 is now available - but N96 only released few weeks ago and most people will already be tied to existing contracts like me! How can it be I'm paying Vodafone £50 per month for a "state-of-the-art" device that's firmware is old? If V30 not to be released (and I suspect there are ulterior motives to this), then I'll happily see out my contract if Vodafone replace my handset with a N96! Comments, Vodafone? |

Hi shatnersbosun,
As the N95 8GB isn't a product we sell any more, and the firmware version currently available is known to work well on the device, there are no plans to release the newer version 30 firmware. Thanks, Tom eForum Team -------------------- |
