A guide to using the Community

Welcome to the Vodafone Community.

This is the place to get technical support, ask general questions around our products and services, and keep up to speed with the latest Vodafone and industry news.

Your forum account isn’t linked to your Vodafone account. For any questions relating directly to your mobile number or account please use our Contact us page where you can speak securely to one of our customer service advisors over Live help or see how to get in touch in-store or over the phone.

How the eForum works

Forum structure

The forum is split into categories (such as Devices, The network, The lounge etc.), which then break down into several boards (using Devices as an example, this splits Apple, Samsung, Mobile broadband etc.) so it's easy for you to find the best place for your post.

We also have a great search tool, so you can find what you need quickly.

Search.PNG

Posts and threads

The individual conversations within a board are called 'threads' or 'topics'. They're made up of 'posts' which are indiviudal messages.

Query types

The forum is for community based support and discussion on a variety of topics such as technical queries, device help and industry news. It’s a place to chat and connect with a great, varied and knowledgeable community.

For anything account specific, you can see how to get in touch with customer services on the Contact us page. As the forum is public, it's not somewhere that can help with thesse questions.

The lounge

We have a category called the The lounge – this is a great place to discuss things which don’t relate to Vodafone services directly. You can talk about anything here including TV and entertainment news, music, apps and more.

Logging in

If you have any problems logging in, please email us at vodafone-eforum@vodafone.co.uk.

As well as the being able to post on the forum, there are a number of features you can unlock by rising through the ranking structure. See below for details of those features, as well as some general ones like how to use the search function.

How to post in the forum

[ Edited ]

Your forum account isn’t linked to your Vodafone account. For any questions relating directly to your mobile number or account please use our Contact us page where you can speak securely to one of our customer service advisors over Live help or see how to get in touch in-store or over the phone.

You can post from anywhere in the forum by clicking the 'Ask the community' button on the right hand side of the page.

Ask community.PNG

Alternatively, you can click the 'New message' button when you're in the board you want to start a conversation in.

new message.PNG

This’ll take you to the new message screen. There are two main areas on this screen. First up is the subject bar

.

subject.png

This is the line that will appear as your thread title. It’s also what shows up when people search. For that reason it is worth being brief but detailed.

For example – “How do I put SIM in HTC One” is good. Conversely “Sim issue” is too vague.

Next up is the main message box. This is where you type all the details of your message. It’s worth keeping in mind the Community House Rules while doing this. Try and be as detailed as possible as this will help the community answer your question better.

box.png

There’re a number of editing options which should be familiar to people who use word processors a lot. Don’t worry if you are not sure of these options though, you can post easily without them.

Once you’re happy with your post then simply click the “Post Message” button and you’re done.

Thanks

What is it?

This is a way to say thanks and reward other users for their help.

When’s it available?

This is available once you’ve made your first post.

How do I use it?

When someone writes a post that you’d like to reward or thank, just click the thumbs up icon at the bottom of their post.

The more thanks you receive, the further up the ranks you’ll climb. You also increase your ranking simply by giving thanks to others!

Please note that from time to time we will archive older threads to increase the performance of the forum. When a post you’ve interacted with is archived then your total number of posts thanks will appear to drop. The original numbers will still apply for reasons of rank but only interactions on active threads will be visible.

The best answer

What is it?

This marks a reply as being the answer to the original question. It allows others to see the correct answer quickly and also rewards the person who posted it.

How do I use it?

If you’re happy with an answer that’s been provided, just click ‘Is this the best answer?’.

You’ll know if a thread’s been marked as being the answer, as you’ll see a little green tick next to the title. You can then jump straight to the answer by clicking ‘Go to answer’.

Please note that from time to time we'll archive older threads to increase the performance of the forum. When a post you’ve interacted with is archived then your total number of answers will appear to drop. The original numbers will still apply for reasons of rank but only interactions on active threads will be visible.

What if the wrong post is marked as the answer?

Just post in the thread to let us know and we can undo this.

Email alerts

What are they?

An option to be emailed when a thread is updated.

This can be very useful if you’re waiting for an update for a particular issue.

When’s it available?

This is available to anyone who’s registered.

How do I use it?

When adding a new post, just check the box on the right of the screen to ‘Subscribe'. Alternatively, if there’s an existing thread that you’d like to subscribe to, just open the thread, select ‘Topic Options’ and then ‘Subscribe’.

You can change your subscriptions by going to ‘My settings’ and then ‘Subscriptions and notifications’.

Thread titles

Thread titles

Sometimes we might change the title of your thread. This is so other users can search for it quickly. For example:

‘I’m not sure how to set up Wi-Fi’ would be changed to ‘Samsung Galaxy S4 – setting up Wi-Fi’.

This gives the thread more relevance and improves how it would be picked up in an internet search like Google.

If you’d like to help both us and other forum users, you could use a similar style when posting a new thread. Some further examples of this are:

Vodafone EuroTraveller – what are the charges in France?

HTC One M8 – setting up emails

Forum Ranking

What is it?

Your current rank is visible underneath your user name beside anything you post and on your profile. Your rank is based on your engagement in the community as explained below.

When’s it available?

You get your first rank as soon as you’ve finished registering. More ranks will be provided as you use the forum.

How do I use it?

Everything is done automatically and is based on your engagement in the community. As you post comments, have answers accepted as 'best answer' and give or receive thanks, you'll go up in rank. Each rank has a number next to it so you can see where you are in relation to each other.

Please note that from time to time we will archive older threads to increase the performance of the forum. When a post you’ve interacted with is archived then your total number of posts/thanks will appear to drop. Don't worry, this will not affect your ranking and even archived posts still count towards your total.

Profile card

What is it?

A way of personalising your interactions in the community by adding a picture and information to the left of your posts.

When’s it available?

The basic function is available from when you register. The ability to upload personal pictures to add to the card is locked until you reach Rank 15.

How do I use it?

By going to “My settings” in your profile menu. From here you can select “Profile Cards” tab and then personalise it to suit your needs. After that, the card will automatically show every time you post.

Signatures

What is it?

Signatures are a message that you have at the bottom of all your posts. This could be a personal slogan or a list of phones you’ve owned.

When’s it available?

You can set up a signature once you’ve reached ‘Helper’ rank.

How do I use it?

Just go to ‘My settings’ and then ‘Personal information’.

Advanced:

You can use basic HTML in signatures to spruce them up a little. If you don't know how to write HTML, just start a new topic or reply on the forum, write your signature on the "Rich Text" tab and then when you're finished, switch to the HTML tab.

You can then copy and paste this into the box for your signature. You can even add pictures using HTML, just make sure they're no taller than 62 pixels otherwise they'll get chopped.

Best answer badges

As well as place to engage with other community members, this forum is also a place to seek help and advice for all sorts of issues. By answering these questions, you are helping not only that one customer but anyone else with that issue. Being selected for the best answer is a great way of showing how much help you are giving. Badges can be earned at 1, 10, 50 and 100 best answers awarded.

Tagging

Tagging a post is often overlooked when it comes to features in the Community. However, by assigning a tag to a comment or subject, you make it much easier for the rest of the Community to find. It also helps identify and group posts together and generally makes navigating the forum that little bit quicker. So to congratulate the people who tag posts to help out everyone else, we have created the badges below. Awarded at 1, 10, 50 and 100 posts tagged.

Completed profile

By completing your profile you are doing two things. The first is saying a little bit about yourself so that the community can get to know you better. The second is providing a little bit of information so that the Vodafone team can help you better with your queries.

To earn this badge you have to provide us with your first name and a little bit about yourself in the biography section. We also ask for you postcode, Device type and contract information. These details are not made public and are just there to help our team in case you have any queries for them.

Welcome to the community

There are lots of ways you can interact with the community and each one serves a different purpose. When you first register for the forum, you will only be able to see 5 badges. These are ones which cover the basic forum activities of Posting a topic, replying to a topic, giving a user thanks, receiving thanks from another user and completing your profile.

Once you earned these 5 started badges you will also earn the special Welcome to the community badge. This shows that you already used most of the functions of the forum and you ‘re no longer a beginner.

By earning this badge you also unlock all of the other badges on the forum. That means it’s time to get collecting!

Please note, it’s possible that when you unlock all the other badges you may have already fulfilled the criteria for several of them. This means you will get multiple badges at the same time!

Hidden badges

There a couple of hidden badges out there that you can earn for different things. Keep an eye out for these badges and be sure to look to see how you can earn them.
