I dont have a 3g symbol despite it being turned on (I understand I may not be in a good area) im not sure if mobile data should be on or data roaming??
Had an original 2g before and im using the same sim I used for that phone.Ive googled for the past few hours but cant seem to get an answer to this problem :0( any help would be great thanks xx

Hi
I'd turn mobile data on. Data roaming applies only if trying to use data abroad.
A couple of other pointers
- worth trying your SIM in another phone to see if you're having problems still, this will let you narrow down if it's a device problem or a recent network fault in the area.
- What error message do you get when you try and connect to the internet? e.g. a timeout

Im having the exact same problem, I'm running an iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1 and I've been having 3G problems for the past week and a half.
I turn on my 3G connection and it'll be fine for around 30 seconds then it'll drop completely and when I try to use Safari I get either a Safari couldn't load the page because it is not connected to the internet or a 'could not activate data network' error message.
I rang customer services and they took me through a few things to try to force my phone to update something or other which didn't seem to work.
The thing is, I have had problems with my vodafone dongle connecting to the internet the past week or so aswell which has got me thinking maybe its a network thing rather than a hardware problem.
My postcode is HU9 5DR if that can be of any assistance and I thank you for taking the time to help me with this problem.

Hi lread86
Let me firstly welcome you to the Vodafone eForum.![]()
I do understand how frustrating a fluctuating signal can be, it’s never a good thing.![]()
I’ve had a look at sites and coverage in the HU9 5DR area and come across the following conclusions:
- Both 2G and 3G coverage is good in this area. In fact 3G is more abundant than 2G
- There are no issues at any of the sites local to you. These are 55034 (3G site at HU95DF), 77829 (3G site at HU9 4LL), 54634 (3G site at HU9 5NP) and 8520 (2G/3G site at HU12 8DX). All these sites show no faults and have successfully taken traffic in the last 30 minutes.
It’s possible there may have been an issue that’s now resolved, so I’d strongly suggest you switch off and restart your device and check if you’re still affected in any way.
If you have any further questions, or any further issues to report, please let me know.
Regards
Trev

I have found since having an iPhone i lose signal regularly no matter where i am. In fact i was in London for 3 days last week and could hardly pick up a 3G signal, i also have a HTC Wildfire which in the same 3 days regularly had 3-4 bars plus 3G when the iPhone did not.
i believe the issues with signal is down to the HS not with the network provider.

Hi there Moonmin,
Many thanks for your continued updated to the thread.
I'm sorry to read you've been experiencing signal problems in your vicinity. Have you had chance to check Network Issues - Please Read Before Posting help thread? It's certainly worth a look to determine any other factors than signal.
There's a thread on our Faults Board that details a site outage in the HU9 area. Though the postcode you've supplied isn't served by the same mast it could be affecting surrounding masts.
The actual mast that serves HU9 5NA is referenced 74308 and it's to the Northwest of you on the junction of Preston Road and Exeter Grove. It's a 3g only site so if this one was having any problems then a switch to 2G may help you.
I've checked the 2G site that serves the same area. It's referenced 6040 and is to the West of you at the roundabout where Corporation Road and Northern Gateway meet. The site is handling traffic perfectly right now.
Could you switch to 2G and let me know if things improve?
Cheers,
Lee

Hi Moonmin,
Thanks for your post here.
I'm afraid we can't give timescales on how long this will be. As I'm sure you can appreciate, when fixing something as technical as a network transmitter, there can be many things that cause any given issue. There can also be many different solutions to fix said issue. With this in mind, even if I wanted to give you a timescale, I wouldn't be able to. There are just too many things that can affect the time it will take to repair a site.
Thanks
Wayne

Hi there Moonmin,
Thanks for requesting an update on the current situation regarding the fault in the Marfleet area.
I'm afraid there are no further updates presently available. If you subscribe to the thread here then you will be notified of any changes to the status of the site.
I'm afraid we can't offer compensation for loss of 3G services. These do not form part of your contract and you've already said 2G provides you with access to the network.
Cheers,
Lee
