Re: Are Ipad2 supplied by Vodafone UK SIM locked?

Hello offen,

Thank you for your post regarding iPad 2 unlocking, our original answer contained some incorrect information which I have now corrected in the response below:

iPad 2s are not supplied unlocked and at this time we currently have no further information on the iPad 2 unlocking process.

This is something we are keen to find out and we will update the thread if we have further information.

Thanks

David

Why on earth Vodafone wants to be the black sheep ALWAYS with BS like that? You are the only carrier in the UK, together with Verizob in the US that keep locking the devices (and Verizon does so due to CDMA). What's Vodafone's excuse on that???

Steve Jobs said that the iPads will be supplied not locked to a specific carrier. Something not right here if Vodafone are saying it's locked.

Re: Are Ipad2 supplied by Vodafone UK SIM locked?

Speaking to a Genius (I love that term:smileyhappy:) at Apple today about this. Yes, all network supplied iPads are locked to that network. Even those supplied by the Network with the 30 day commitment sim. The Genius also told me that there were no Unlocking procedures in place by the UK networks either.

can a mod verify that last bit?

Hi hades,

Dave confirms this in his post above. There are currently no unlocking procedure for the iPad2. As soon as we hear more information. We'll let you know.

Thanks

Re: Are Ipad2 supplied by Vodafone UK SIM locked?

But there is a service to unlock the iPad 2's (Not through Vodafone) that does NOT involve jail breaking it's official with Apple through a 3rd Party at a steep price of £80.

I won't be doing it!!

Re: Are Ipad2 supplied by Vodafone UK SIM locked?

You know I am not so sure all subsidised UK iPad2's are SIM locked. I got my iPad2 from Three on a 24 month contract in the Oxford Street Branch of the Three Store in April. I have used a foreign sim in mine when abroad with no problems whatsoever. Also I read on other forums that Orange was supposed to be the only network SIM locking.

I did not allow the store to activate my iPad 2 in house so perhaps I escaped the locking process. I understand all the units that are locked tend to be activated in store at the time of purchase.
