Hi all

According to vodofone's info pages , cell coverage in tokyo for vodofone is available through third party towers.

I have unlocked my phone for good measure however I wouldn't mind being able to use my current U.K based contract over seas.

Just wondering if anyone can say for sure that my phone will work in tokyo
I have a map available dictating the specif area if required.

Thanks for your time in advance.

Hello.

Welcome to the forum

This link may help http://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/costs/travelling-abroad/index.htm via typing in Japan.

"Our standard charges for Japan

Data charges explained
Price
Make a call £1.65 a minute.
Receive a call £1.30 a minute.
Send a text 35p per text.
Send a picture message 37p per picture message.
Data £3 per MB for up to 5MB then £15 for every 5MB after that."

I would personally advise turning Off 'Mobile Data ' in your phones settings so your phone does not accidentally connect to a local Network ,and then use WiFi where you can for Internet use and or iMessage usage if your contacting another iPhone or use Viber or Whatsapp etc if the other parties have them downloaded too.

Perhaps your thoughts on using a Local Sim Card is a sound one.

Your Vodaphone should connect to local Networks automatically or via manually choosing one but It's difficult to confirm if local networks will be ok using your Vodaphone SIM card as I'm sure they'll suffer from fringe coverage areas and not spots too.

Enjoy your trip.

@Sirshelley

Unless things have changed, Jananese networks only use 3G.

You should be able to get a connection using Softbank.

Make sure there are no roaming restrictions on your account before leaving the UK.

Thanks for the replies guys; good to know it'll still work; regardless of the ludicrous prices :Smiling:

I'll contact costomer support regarding roaming restrictions.

For others planning on the same location:
I have yet to look into this company much but looks promising.

Here's hoping the studies will go smoothly :Smiling:
