Re: IPhone 3gs unlocked but not working at all

thank you.

Would I need to go to a Genius bar or would any Apple store do?

I think you would need a 'Genius' to sort it out.

In fact living only a few miles from an Apple store with a Genius Bar I was not aware that there were any Apple stores in the UK without a 'Genius' in residence.

Re: IPhone 3gs unlocked but not working at all

i think you're right. What I thought was an Apple store near me isn't a proper Apple store. I think I need to travel a few miles to find myself a genius but hopefully I can manage it soon!

Thanks for all your help. I'll update if I manage to get it sorted.

Just a thought? If my phone is still under contract with Vodafone then should the issue be dealt with by vodafone?

Re: IPhone 3gs unlocked but not working at all

The phone is only under warranty for 12 months from the date it was first activated, not for the length of your contract

Even if that is the case  (have you had the phone under 12 months?)  with your phone I think Vodafone, considering the phone was hacked, would not be as sympathetic as Apple may be as the warranty has been voided.

Fair enough! I think the phone was past the 12 month period when I got it so well out of the warranty. It'll teach me not to try and do things properly - it worked perfectly when it was jailbroken!

Re: IPhone 3gs unlocked but not working at all

i had this problem with my iphone 3gs. i took it to apple shop and they told me that if the phone has been jailbreak before. Restore to factory settings will not work. they said it was totally broke and there is no way to repair it. so i had to pay for a refurished iphone.

modem firewire was on 6.15.00. but 5.1 only works on 5.16.05.

Re: IPhone 3gs unlocked but not working at all

That's the risk people take when they jailbreak a phone.

Generally jailbreaking it to unlock it will only result in the phone relocking itself when updated, but, there are so many dodgy apps out there for jailbroken phones that people download them without realising that they can do permanent damage.
