Iphone 3g - Unlocked Worked For 5 Days Now No Service

I am currently on Blacberry 900 plan paying 45 a month and have recently traded my storm for iphone 3g 16gb. I had my new device unlocked and was using it from 10th Jan to 14th Jan evening. When I had woke up in the morning the phone showed no service. Seeing this I had tried all kind of method that I can think of to fix this problem except for contacting vodafone technical support.
Since the phone stopped picking up vodafone signal (saying no service), I t-mobile sim card inserted and it picks up the carried without a problem. So I thought could it be the sim card at fault? So I tried it on another phone and it seems to pick up signal fine (other phone being iphone 2g).
I am thinking that when I do insert my vodafone sim card into my iphone 3G, it does search for the signal and is may be rejected by vodafone (the logic for this is that when the phone is near a speaker I can hear buzzing sound from the speaker and contacts vodafone and then not being allowed on the server - not sure if this logic is correct). Anyway could somebody please help? It used to work for 4 days and then just stopped. I can't think of a reason as I had tried everything that I can on the phone itself and the phone works fine on T-mobile.
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried inserting the SIM in a different area (where there would likely be a different base station?

Have you tried running the unlock software again? I've no idea whether this will harm the device or not, although I would be surprised, but, as with everything on here, it would have to be at your own risk...

Yeah tried reunlocking after full restore etc etc. But everytime T-mobile sim works and my Voda sim doesn't. But when I use another phone my vodasim works. It appears to the vodafone network rejecting my iphone's imei? I'm not sure but could vodafone technical support look into this? I realise iphone is not a supported device, however I keep getting a feeling that vodafone's stopped my phone from working? Seems bizarr but would like to clear up the possibility that its just that.

Firsty - Welcome to the eForum!
I can understand your confusion.
I think that the problem that you are having may be a little more straightforward than that.
You say that the Vodafone sim works fine in an iphone 2g but not in your new iphone 3g. It may be that there is a problem with the 3g service in your area.
If you add your postcode to the thread I can check on this for you.
I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this!

Thank you Kirsty. However one point to note would be that iphone 3G does support non 3G network as well. I have tried switching off the 3G and used 2G only but it doesn't work still. My postcode is HA2 9HQ.
Thanks for looking. If you have any other thought on this, please do let me know.

This is an odd one!
Since your Vodafone sim works fine in another phone and switching to 2g makes no difference on the 3g iphone, I think it is the phone that is causing you the problem.
If it was the Vodafone service or sim it wouldn't work in your iphone 2g either.
If your iphone 3g had been blacklisted so that it couldn't access the network, it would be the same no matter what network sim you put in.
I think the third party unlocking software that you are using isn't working correctly. This is the only explanation I can think of.
I'm sorry it's not the answer that you were looking for, but at least you can still use the service in a different phone until the 3g iphone is working.

If this happens while travelling, it is most possibly to be a software problem, since the sim was working before. So, I left my iPhone 3G dry out of battery (Not even the red battery was appearing when I was pushing the buttons). Then I charged it without the sim and after that I reinserted the sim back in.
Everything started working again!
Hope I helped.

Basically- i unlocked the iphone with third party software no service on vodafone sim when i put it in. so i used loads of unlock software....again the phone searches and no service or the one tiny bar.
It is clearly trying to connect because i can hear it against my monitor beeping when it is near it and i turn the phone on. Also the vodafone sim works in my other cruddy phone ie the Tocco so it must be vodafone blocking me from using it???????????? HELP please!

I don't think the information you've supplied necessarily supports that conclusion - the interference simply indicates that the phone is transmitting or receiving - nothing to say that what it is transmitting makes any sense at all. It's more than likely that, if the SIM is not recognised, and yet works in another phone, that the phone is not working correctly, than the network is malfunctioning, I'd have thought.

I agree with Neil in that if it was the network then the sim would not work either way.
If it was the simcard then it would also fail to connect in another phone.
In terms of Blocking handsets we will not block an individual IMEI without reported theft and it would also be blocked for every network.
It stands to reason that something has gone wrong with the 'unlocking process' on your iPhone, I'm afraid that we can't provide any fixes at this point since your simcard is functioning network wise.
It's possibly not the answer you're looking for but it's the closest possible explanation,
Reidar
