Iphone 3gs dying & my contract doesn't renew til november!

Hi everyone,
my iphone 3gs started displaying a message 'This accessory is not optimized with this iphone' 4 days ago when nothing was plugged in and now it repeats this message every 10 minutes or so and often restarts itself. I've tried restoring it and it's still doing the same & think its only a matter of time before it doesn't even turn on (as with all apple products they work well but then suddenly die completely). I used the apple key to take out my sim card and a piece of the casing simply came away with it?! It seems to literally be combusting despite being a very looked after phone
I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem? My friend who works at apple simply told me it's time to get a new one. I'm guessing because my phone is now over a year old it is out of warranty? But obviously how am i meant to use my contract without a phone that works? Is it up to apple to fix/replace the phone or is it vodafone as my contract is with them?

If your contract is up for renewal in november, you should be eligible for an early upgrade (can upgrade up to 190 days early) and the remainder of your contract is added onto your new one. If thats an option that interests you, wait till one of the mods reads this post and they'll probably drop you an email. Once you reply to that they will get in touch and go through your options with you.

it is always good to see new faces on here.
Sorry to see that you phone is pretty much falling apart, I am sure that this is very frustrating with you.
With Apple handsets you get a 12 month warranty with an option to buy the Apple care protection which covers the phone for a further 12 months. After that period it would be your responsibility to fix the handset.
The most sensible option here is to look at early upgrade options as mentioned by sturowls, thanks for that ![]()

Hi Martin,
thanks for responding, might i suggest vodafone send out emails in the future after 11 months or so with an reminder/offer regarding the apple care protection. If i had been reminded i was nearing the end of warranty protection - i probably would have purchased it for my 3gs
