We don’t have any information regarding the iPhone and whether it will be stocked by Vodafone in the future. As per our usual update process, as soon as we know anything then the Coming Soon section of our website will be updated, so basically you’ll know as soon as we do.

What's clear is that nothing is clear in terms of a positive Vodafone/iPhone strategy in the UK. In an industry with an average product lifecycle of just 6 weeks, they would know if it were coming onto their network anytime soon and combined with the Orange announcement, they would have no choice but to make a statement... it's not like Apple embargoed Orange to protect their relationship with Vodafone?

Read the fact there is no comment the same way you read the lack of any denial of responsibility from Flavio Briatore about the Renault saga... it's up to us, the customers, (or 'sponsors' in the F1 analogy), to decide if stick with it, or do an ING and pull out as a result of this 'lack of announcement' despite a previously successful relationship.

In all fairness to Vodafone, it's unlikely that they're holding out in their efforts to get the iPhone. It's infinitely more likely that Apple see other networks as a better fit. Vodafone could offer them all the money in the world but if Apple decide that they're better off offering the iPhone elsewhere, nothing will change their mind.

(Apple are a very headstrong company).

The endlessly frustrating 'we don't have any announcements to make at this time' message doesn't really endear them though.

No doubt this will continue to be a heated topic, particularly in terms of customer expectancy as well as a desire to be informed as per any forthcoming updates,

At present we don' have any insight or news regarding who will be hosting the iPhone or when this will happen, as mentioned many times within this thread (and others) it is mainly Apples decision and this as much as we know.

Contrary to the common misconception that we 'hold out on information' we work hard to keep our customers informed of any relating news, the current scenario is that we do not have any further information regarding whether we will or will not be providing the iPhone on our network, if this were ever to change i am sure it would be a very public and informative update.

In the meantime we are more than happy to continue answering any questions you may have, as well as providing technical support for the range of devices we do support, all this while trying to limit speculation and discussion that may detract from the intended use of the eForum, that of providing technical help and assistance to those that need it, while striving to cater for those that require customer service.

Forget about the iPhone. Save up your penny's and get the totally awesome Nokia N900 when it comes out. Having owned the Nokia 770 and the Nokia N800, i fully intend to get myself the N900 (even though i have just upgraded my handset to the Magic, which i have been very impressed with). It probably won't knock the iPhone off its perch due to Apples marketing, but its going to so much better than the iPhone in so many different ways.

Well, initially very disappointed when I heard this on the BBC news but a quick search and I found the following:-

"It is also likely to be available from at least one more mobile phone operator, with Vodafone also understood to be close to signing a deal with Apple, though it may not have the device in time for Christmas."

This is really confusingly worded! Given today's announcement it's clear that Vodafone did know that the iPhone was coming to the network - knew enough, in fact, to get some members of the web team to get a web page set up and ready to go.

What might be useful in future is for the mods and webteam to say that they don't know! Of course the upper management will be in talks with big phone manufacturers but it's highly, highly unlikely that any more junior members of staff will know. When a member of Vodafone staff says on their forum that they don't hold out information only for an annoucement to be made 16 hours later makes the company look, well, silly. Like any good business, Vodafone will hold back on information for the sake of competitivity but it's not as if every staff member is in some kabal where they keep everything to themselves. That's the impression that general statements like the above give.

I'm not pointing the finger and saying 'omg Reider ur lying!!! LIEZ!!'. What I am saying is that the mod's authority is called into doubt if they make sweeping statements suggesting this is company-wide rather than just the knowledge of front-line staff.

ANYWAY.

I'm glad this has been announced today - three networks carrying the iPhone should mean competitive pricing. Looking forward to seeing the various pricing structures when they're announced...

The problem is that we have to wait. Just think about it, after you have signed up to a 24 months contract for the iPhone 3GS, six months down the line you will have another new Iphone... Augh... Why the late? Quick!!! We need the Iphone 3GS on Vodafone soon!
