Iphone Unlock Not Worked

I recently bought an iphone 3gs from a friend who had it on contract from vodafone. he has submitted the unlock request to vodafone for the 3gs and has since heard back saying that the unlock has been completed.

However the unlock has not shown up when connected to itunes with a different network sim card inserted in the phone. and when i insert my 3 sim in the phone it either says No Service constantly in the top left corner, or it occasionally has a notification which says "Sim Failure". when connected to itunes with the 3 sim it says "The sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be compatible" but when connected with a vodafone sim it works okay.

can anyone help with this?

Re: Iphone Unlock Not Worked

It's unusual for anyone to get an email saying the phone has been unlocked, they usually say words to the effect that the unlocking has been approved.

How long ago did your friend complete the unlocking form? It generally takes up to seven working days to complete the unlock process.

If you have ios5 installed and iCloud turned on then  every time you insert a different sim card it automatically forces and update of the setting for the sim that is inserted without being connected to iTunes.

If your friend gives you the Vodafone reference number and you post it to these boards as Mod will be able to update you on the staus of the  unlocking. If it is unlocked it could be that with the 'sim failure' message that you just need a new sim.

Are you able to borrow a sim card from anyone that is not with Vodafone to check that the problem is not with your sim? The messsage 'sim card failure' is not something you would expect to see unless the phone was having problems reading the sim card.

If not you can post the reference number in the email your friend got and a Mod will check it out for you.

Re: Iphone Unlock Not Worked

In that case, as you say, the phone unlocking has not been completed.

Your only way to move forward is to post the reference number given in the email that your friend received so that a Mod can look at it for you.

Re: Iphone Unlock Not Worked

I got similarly stumped like this when I unlocked my iPhone 3G from O2 years ago. The phone IS actually unlocked but you have to to a restore in iTunes for the unlock to kick in (you will get a screen saying your iPhone is now unlocked). Annoying I know but should work.

Have you allowed seven working days since you filled in the NUC form?

There is no need to do a restore of the phone, Once Apple have processed the unlocking all you have to do is connect the phone to iTunes with a non-Vodafone sim card in it to complete the process

Iphone 3GS Unlock Status?

Hi all

I had a thread on the forum about my iphone unlock not having worked for my 3gs: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Apple/Iphone-Unlock-Not-Worked/m-p/1072805/highlight/false#M41038

The moderator who asked me for the reference number of my unlock has since been online but has not made any comment on my unlocks status or in fact contacted me in any way since. if any of the moderators is reading this could you please update me on the status of the unlock or just keep me in the loop, the unlock reference number is 445569, and the unlock request form email number was #8740914.

Fraser.

You need to allow a couple of days for your post to get dealt with, posts are dealt with in the order they are posted so with a fairly small team working on them you can't expect an instant reply and you latest post giving the details that a Mod asked for was only posted yesterday.

You are better off posting in the same thread as you did before as double posting only makes more work and thus more delay in getting back to you.

Re: Iphone 3GS Unlock Status?

Hi there Alreadybeensaid,

As promised I'm back with an update for you :smileywink:

Your iPhone has been unlocked. Please replace the SIM (use a SIM that's not been used with your iPhone) and connect the device to iTunes or perform a software restore via iTunes.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on how I've handled your query today - eForum Survey

Cheers,
