Hey kooga_21,
Welcome to the eForum
this is a really good question. I've had a hunt around our fellow New Zealand eForum and can confirm that the iPhone 3GS they sell are network unlocked which is excellent news!
I can only say good luck with your purchase, we don't officially support the iPhone on Vodafone in the UK but we do all we can on the forum to get iPhone owners up and running on our network. They have managed to get the majority of our services running on their iPhones. Your iPhone will need a few settings to be input manually (e.g. Internet Access Points, MMS and SMS etc. but these are relatively straightforward).
Feel free to drop us a post, either ourselves or the forum community will be happy to lend a hand
Once you're up and running check out Vodafone My Account - a real timesaver when you want to check your price plan or your bills online anytime, anywhere!
All the best,
Adam
eForum Team.
