Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

Ben,

The 'personal hotspot' Apple vs Vodafone has been going around and around for some time now.  Customers call Vodafone and they say Apple control it, Customers call Apple and they say 'Well Sir, it's a Carrier Setting'... it's set by the carrier not apple. so who to believe.?  Given than The Three network support the function, I really do tend to think Apple are correct, Vodafone just haven't tested and implemented the function yet...or maybe they don't plan to...nobody seems to know.

I personally bought the Ipad on the basis it would have the function...

Best option seems to be to use Ipad on WiFI with  MiFi device to escape the argument, but this costs more money...and no signs of Vodafone recognising this as a wider problem and offering any kind of solution or refund.

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

There appears to have been some movement on this issue with the release of IOS6.0

update your ipad to IOS6 and you get a personal hotspot option, but the option will point you to vodafone webiste if tethering is not enabled on your vodafone account/price plan.

I called vodafone as my ipad plan was sold as including tethering....technical support are claiming still not 'supported' BUT...the vodafone self help portal gives instrucitons as what to do for the new Ipad.

http://help.vodafone.co.uk/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1001&PARTITION_ID=1&CMD=BROWS...

(select use tethering option for instructions).

Vodafone customer serivces are working on this for me as I write this...so fingers crossed all sorted....

James from CS (Customer Services) promised to give me a call back with the results of when he's fixed it all.

....

Customer Serivces may be more busy...if more New ipad users update to IOS6.0

I really hope this is now sorted and I can get on with other things! like using my wifi hotspot when out and about... :smileyhappy:

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

OK. so no word from Vodafone, James didn't call me back.

I've done some investigating. Took Iphone 4s SIM and put it in New Ipad IOS6 which has carrier settings 13.0 installed and vola! Personal hotspot works.  Take 4s sim out and put ipad dataplan sim back in and...personal hostpot option reset's and informs you to go to vodafone website to enable on the account.  Would seem technical support were correct the ipad plan does not have tethering enabled on it....but why? When it was sold as including tethering...(and was actually the reason why I bought the ipad as then I wouldn't need mifi...I could just use the ipad...for everything...).

Seems...need to call vodafone again...but travelling on business so...will have to wait until I'm back. ..sigh!!!

Unless anyone reading this forum has anyother suggestions...

Hi there greenwich,

Thanks for your post.

The fact the SIM works in the iPad would lead me to believe that everything is present and correct on your account in terms of your iPhone. To me it would appear that there's something missing on your iPad plan.

I've sent you a PM which can be accessed here. If you could follow the instructions in the PM and send us your details one of the team will be with you as soon as they can.

Cheers,

LeeH

iPad Internet not working

Hi,

I just got my new iPad today which I collected Instore. The boy in the shop put the sim in and said it's all ready to go with Internet, but since I've switched it on it just constantly says "no service". It's working fine on my home wifi just not on the Internet I'm paying for with Vodafone. Help me please!

Please help! Internet not working on ipad3

I picked up my new iPad Instore today's and the assistant said that he had put the sim in and everything was ready to go, but I got home and it just constantly says no service :smileysad: . Tried phoning customer service and the woman said there was no record of me even having an iPad so she can't help. Very distressing when you're excited to use a new device and it doesn't go as planned :smileysad:

Thanks

Mel

Re: iPad Internet not working

Hi Misspiggy258,

Thanks for your post.

With the unprecedented amount of requests going on to our network at the moment with recent launches, there may have been a delay in getting you on to the mobile network.

I can see you posted over a day ago now. Can you confirm that you're now able to browse over the mobile network?

Cheers,

LeeH

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

I have a new iPad with IOS6 and have not been able to get the Vodafone PAYG ipad data SIM to work at all - let alone get the hotspot working.

The Vodafone technical help guy told me today that the Vodafone PAYG APN does not work with IOS6 and that I would have to downgrade to IOS5 (which according to the Forum elsewhere is impossible) and that this was APPLE's FAULT!

Although other networks don't seem to have any problems (my iPhone 5 is working great on O2). I would suggest to anyone avoid Vodafine like the plague for Apple products. The network is not set up for it and they are clearly clueless.

IOS6 and Vodafone PAYG not compatible

I have a new iPad with IOS6 and have not been able to get the Vodafone PAYG ipad data SIM to work at all.

The Vodafone technical help guy told me today that the Vodafone PAYG APN does not work with IOS6 and that this was APPLE's FAULT. He said I would have to downgrade to IOS5 (which according to the Forum elsewhere is impossible) to get the data working. So if you want the latest Apple stuff on Voda forget it.

BTW the APN settings he told me to use (which is different from some of the info elsewhere on this forum) are:

SMART

web

web

Although other networks don't seem to have any problems (my iPhone 5 is working great on O2). I would suggest to anyone avoid Vodafine like the plague for the latest iPhone or IPad. The network is not set up for it and they are clearly clueless.

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

Hi Lee,

Did you manage to sort out greenwich's question and find out what service is missing on the iPad plan over the iPhone one?

I am looking at the same issue, a pay monthly plan with iOS6 and the enable hotspot button takes me to the vodafone help pages that do not offer much help.

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

Hi greenwich,

Thanks for chasing this up.

I believe Sukhi replied to your email this morning.

Hi tonygosling - Thanks for your feedback. Tethering and personal hotspot is not available on PAYG.

Hello grolschuk - I've sent you a PM which can be accessed here. If you could follow the instructions in the PM and send us your details one of the team will be with you as soon as they can.

Cheers all,

LeeH

Hi greenwich,

Unfortunately we were unable to access the account because of its type.

'Restricted access' is all Sukhi could see on the account so it was imnpossible for us to complete the necessary security checks to be able to add anything to your account.

Do you have an account manager you can contact?

Cheers,

LeeH

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

LeeH,

Seriously though, are you able to send me a PM with instructions as to what to ask customer services to do? I can then call 191 and ask them to do it on the account for the IPad...but if I don't have specific instructions...I think I'll go around in circles some more....

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

Ditto - as I think my account will be restricted access too :smileyhappy:

It is strange that the APNs can be added to an iPhone allocated SIM and work fine in an iPad, but the same settings cannot be applied to the iPad allocated SIM.

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

Hi there greenwich,

If you could reply to the email we may be able to put you in touch with someone that can help.

Any advisor with the correct access should be able to understand that you need to add tethering to your account. It's not that hard in all fairness :smileywink:

It's just a case of ensuring you're on a plan that has tethering included.

Cheers,

LeeH

Re: New Ipad Personal Hotspot

I'm 90 minutes into a phone call with tech help and getting nowhere.

the technician claimed that tethering is impossible on the new iPad. I even took her to the page on the Vodafone website advertising the service, the help page that tells you how to do it and this page of postings highlighting similar problems. Her response has been to out me thru to AppleCare who are busy telling me that its a carrier issue.

dont mean to be rude tech team,  but it shouldn't be this difficult to get a service that was available on IOS4

by all means send me a PM, but also access my file and teach your colleagues how to do this!!!
