Outrageous iPad roaming charges

I am due to go to France where I would like to use my ipad over 3G networks.
Currently the roaming charges are £8 per 100mb per day!! If I use 1mb I still get charged £8 according to vodafone customer services.
Why should an iPad be treated any different to a mobile phone - it costs me £2 per 25mb for my iPhone, so the same cost per 100mb but the key difference is it only costs me £2 to get 1mb of data rather than £8
Why the difference - I feel totallly ripped-off by Vodafone who seem to be exploiting the EU data rules just due to the mobile device description.

Hi jbutterfill2
The prices that you have been informed of are correct, and you can see these on our Data Roaming page.
Our prices are always in competition with the other networks and very competitive. These are also in line with the OFCOM regulations.
If this is something that you don't wish to pay for, you can disable data roaming from the iPad.
