Signal problems iphone 3G

Hello

I have had my iphone 3g for over a year now, up until about 8 weeks ago I have had signal in my house. The signal was never perfect - but I was always able to receive texts and calls and make calls and send messages. Yes, there were certain spots in the house that signal was better, i.e.. by windows etc but overall there was no issue.

About 8 weeks ago my signal started to decrease whilst in my house, and now - it has got so bad that my phone doesn't have signal anywhere in the house - basically when I'm at home, my phone is useless and may as well be turned off. It's so frustrating. Even more so because there was never a problem before.

There was an incident some 4/6 weeks ago where vodafone signal went down due to a break in at one of it's sites, my signal had been gradually decreasing prior to this, but since this has happened my signal has got worse.

I have called vodafone helpline, the operator had trouble understanding the problem, so I had to repeat myself about 3 times! After asking me to take certain actions on my phone (disable 3g, search for carrier (vodafone did not show up at all), re-boot my phone and tried these things again) and still no signal. He has then told me to take my phone into a vodafone shop as it sounds like there is a fault...

Has anyone else had similar problems? Sorry for the lengthy email but I am very frustrated !

I hope someone can help? Thanks!

Hey emmie_p,

Thanks for your post regarding signal at home.

I've checked your profile postcode and the site that serves your area is referenced 1839. It's way over in Bicester right next to the railway station. There's nothing listed on our Faults Board, which is always a great place to check for known issues and our site checker shows that the site is performing well.

Engineers logs also prove there are no open cases for this site and there are no alarms to indicate a fault with the site. Coverage at your profile postcode is quite poor to be fair. You're right in the middle of two site's further reaches and may be experiencing cell breathing.

On the other hand, could you try dialing *#105# into your handset and pressing the green/call button? Your SIM should have updated on the network at least once in the last 24 hours. If any of the dates on the reply are older than this, then try a manual roam. Details of which can be found in the Help Centre. Just select your handset make, model then pick Network from the list and follow the instructions.

Finally, a trip to our Network Problems Troubleshooting may be of help :smileywink:

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers,

Lee

Hi Nannygoo,

Welcome to the Vodafone eForum from all of the team. :smileyhappy:

To be honest from what you have said it sounds like there could be a network fault in your area if the network has recently dropped.

The first thing to do would be to take a look at our faults board for all of the latest known network issues, If there is nothing from your area on this then please post us the postcode of the effected area and we will look into this further for you.

Ive had the same problem and Im in Manchester. I upgraded my phone from a Blackberry to an IPhone last month and since my upgrade I've had little/no signal its so frustrating.

Ive phoned Customer Service today and didnt get any help, was just advised I must be in a bad area!!! Dont understand how as I never had any signal problems with my Blackberry.

Re: Signal problems iphone 3G

Hello

Ive checked the faults board and nothing is listed for my area being E6 but all day at home the phone has been searching for a signall.  Normally I get full bars coverage is excellent.  When turning off 3g I get full bars which tells me there must be a localised fault or something.

Can someone please enlighten me as to when it will be fixed ?

Thanks

Re: Signal problems iphone 3G

I live in E1 and haven't had any signal all weekend in the immediate area which is becoming increasingly fraustrating. The help lines offer little to no information on the fault and no chance of any idication to how long the signal will be down for.

Anyone else having problems in east london??

Re: Signal problems iphone 3G

i live in eh24 post code and for the last week my signal, usually excellent in the house now comes and goes. cust service talked me thro all resets and no change. have a work Nokia with BT mobile (vodafone) And it seems ok so assumption was sim card and told to go to shop. went to shop and told sim ok and could be the handset but then it comes ok and signal returns to normal for hours then goes again. reluctant to send handset away as shop suggested as for long spells it's ok. could it be an intermittent network issue? please help!!!

Re: Signal problems iphone 3G

Hi Guys,

As your signal queries are all relating to different areas I would advise to check out our signal troubleshooting thread first, then if you are still having an issue start a new thread for your specific area with the full postcode.

By doing this we will be able to check each case fully and it will also enable other users to post if they are having issues in those areas. :smileyhappy:

Re: Signal problems iphone 3G

I am also in E1 and haven't had signal in my home for about 3 weeks to a month. Very frustrating. According to the Faults page there are 2 network faults in the area and they have no idea when they will be fixed...

Hi andye75

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with signal here.

So that we can get this looked into for you can you refer to the network issues link above.

When you have done this, if you are still having problems please post your full postcode so that we can pin point the site that is causing this issue.

Thanks

Wayne

eForum Team

Hi there andye75,

Many thanks for confirming your postcode.

Your signal issues are directly related to site 00403, which is listed in our Faults Board.

SITE 00403 - E1 - Whitechapel - London - Site down is the thread you should refer to. You can subscribe to the thread and will be notified via email when the issue is fixed.

The reference for the fault is 2201701 and the latest is that we are currently awaiting removal of asbestos from the site. Until this material has been safely removed, we are not in a position to carry out work under health and safety regulations.

Cheers,

Lee
