Unlock used 3GS

Hello - I bought an iPhone 3GS from someone at work. It has a Vodaphone sim inside that has been disconnected "No Service". I just wondered what the process would be to get it unlocked? I looked that the Vodaphone unlock page, which stated they would only honor pay monthly users using the phone tied to their account. Is this true, or is there another way to unlock it, using a pay as you go sim maybe?

Thanks for your time.

Hi PaulWilliamson and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. Only the original owner of the iPhone will be able to initiate the unlock request. You’ll need to get in touch with them, so they can contact us and submit the request for you.

If you would like to point them in the direction of the NUC page of our website, it would probably speed things up for you. :smileyhappy:

Thanks

Wayne

Re: Unlock used 3GS

Hi thanks for the reply.

Can you tell me exactly how the process works? I bought it from the husband of someone how works at my company, so I don't know him personally. How much does it cost, and do I need a working Vodaphone sim in the phone? There is one in there at the moment but it states "No Service". I presume because the contract was cancelled or something.

Thanks

Paul

Re: Unlock used 3GS

Hi there PaulWilliamson,

You will need to ask the original owner to request the unlock code.

  • There needs to be an active Vodafone SIM but these can be obtained from any or our stores.
  • Once the request has been made we aim to have the device unlocked within 3 working days.
  • When it's unlocked and email will be sent to the requesting party to advise of the unlock procedure

Cheers,

Lee

Will there be a charge for this service? The phone was bought in 2010. If so do I need to load the pay as you go sim with money so he doesn't have to pay?

If the phone was on a contract it is free of charge, but if it is a PAYG phone then the charge is £20 so you would need to stick £20 credit on it for it to be unlocked. For the latter (PAYG) it does not need the original owner to request the unlock, you can do that yourself.
