Unlock

Hi everyone. I recently visited one of the vodafone branches to get my iphone 4s unlocked. They charged me £20 cash and said that I would get an email within 48  hours telling me my phone is unlocked and a step by step guide on what to do next.

I have been staring at my unlocked iphone for 48 hours lol and checked my emails. Not one email from vodafone.

I was wondering if you could check my progress or help me somehow.

Reference Number: 350676

Thanks in advance

Vodafone (VF) ask Apple to unlock the phone, Apple then change the phone’s details on their database to show it is unlocked. Once Apple have processed the unlock request the next time you connect the phone to iTunes you will get a message in iTunes that the phone is now unlocked. You must insert a non-Vodafone sim  which will complete the unlocking. Once this is done the phone will remain unlocked. Basically using a non-VF sim forces the phone to go to iTunes to look for new carrier updates and it then finds if the phone has been unlocked.

If you have updated the software to ios5 iTunes is no longer required . Simply put in your non Vodafone sim and it will prompt you to connect to WiFi and the unlock will be done on the phone. Much easier now.

Thanks guys for the tip but itunes still shows that "not appear to be supported" message.

Re: Unlock

Oh yeah... about what someone said about the ios5 and wifi. Shouldn't I have ios5 as standard in the 4s?

Re: Unlock

How long ago did you request Vodafone to unlock the phone?

The unlock process generally take 3-4 days so I would keep trying it it is less than that afer 4 days has passed. I assume that you had a PAYG phone as the charge for unlocking that is £19.99.

Yes you will have ios5 on a 4S.

Re: Unlock

It's been 3 days. Thanks I will wait 4 days. I was confused because they told me it would unlock within 48 hours.

Thanks for the reply

Re: Unlock

I think 48 hrs is a target but  it does generally take longer than that.

Re: Unlock

Hi Abduljc,

My apologies for the delay in responding to you however the eForum has been a lot busier than normal as of late.

That aside I have checked the reference that you have given and can see that our NUC teams were unable to request the unlock code for you as the IMEI number given is showing as an Orange IMEI number.

If you have paid the store £20 to unlock the phone, you will need to speak with them directly to look at a refund and then ask Orange to unlock the device.

James
