Unlocking iPhone 3GS in Portugal

Hi,

I recently bought an iPhone 3GS locked to Vodafone UK network (not activated). I thought the phone would be usable, because I am a Vodafone Portugal costumer. However, the SIM-card doesn't work on the device. What are my options relating to unlocking this phone? Or should I just return it?

Hi,

There's information on network unlock codes on this help centre article. Based on this Vodafone can provide unlock codes for all devices apart from iPhone and BlackBerry Storm

As Vodafone UK & Vodafone Portugal are seperate companies you will not be able to get the iPhone unlocked by the Portugese company.

Vodafone UK will only unlock an iPhone when the contract with which it was supplied has reached the end of the contract committment. If you purchased it off a private seller your best bet is to ask them to take it back or for them to apply to VF to unlock it for you (assuming it was supplied on their contract).

There have been posts reporting that VF CS will arrange to unlock the phone for you but this has not been confirmed by BF on these boards.

Hi kan,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum Family, it's always great to see new faces on here :smileyhappy:.

I can confirm that we're unable to unlock iPhones that were purchased as part of a contract until that contract has expired. If you didn't purchase it as part of a contract though, then we can unlock it for you. If you use the link provided by redpages, you'll find instructions on how to arrange this.
