Unlocking iPhone 3GS

I need to get my iPhone 3GS unlocked, but have received an email from Vodafone saying it is not possible online. How can I get this done? I have my IMEI number and the phone was collected from a Vodafone store - I do not understand why I need to go to a store (the closest of which is 20 miles away!) to get this done.
Please help!

Re: Unlocking iPhone 3GS

Did they give a reason why it is not possible? Usually that is only if there is a query over the IMEi or the ownership. If it is a PAYG phone you need £20 credit on it to process the unlock, could that be the problem or is it a contract phone?

I would sit tight until a Mod picks up your post and takes a look at why you have been told that.

Re: Unlocking iPhone 3GS

Hiya,

Not really, but then I don't think the woman understood me very well!

I got my iphone from Vodafone initially, it broke so the Vodafone store replaced with a new one. I have given them the correct IMEI number though so don't understand why they can't unlock it. They gave me the phone... I'm on contract and my contract is up - I just want it unlocked so I can leave!!! I've had one thing after another with Vodafone lately!

Re: Unlocking iPhone 3GS

It may well be the case that the IMEI of the replacement phone has not been updated in Vodafone's database, so they want the store to check it an update your account details.

Re: Unlocking iPhone 3GS

Hi Lee,
I have done that - I am hoping for a response today before I have to drive to the nearest Vodafone store tomorrow.
I am desperate to get this done, as I can't transfer my number to my new contract until it happens.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Unlocking iPhone 3GS

Katie,

I'm afraid that the bad news is that even after Vodafone agree to unlock your phone you will have to wait several days for Apple to process the unlock request.

The unlocking process is completed by putting a sim card from another network in the phone and connecting it to iTunes.

Re: Unlocking iPhone 3GS

Hi Jeffkin,

Thanks for your help :smileyhappy:
Once Vodafone agree to unlock it and it goes to Apple, can I then transfer my number to T-Mobile? I am just wary of getting charged £20 for an unlock when I am entitled to it! Also desperate to get over to my new contract as it's already started and I can't use it :smileysad:

Thanks

Re: Unlocking iPhone 3GS

I am having the exact same problem.  I got an email saying "We are unable to verify your email address with our records as it is not updated in our database. Also, the IMEI number provided by you does not match with our records and in that case we will not be able to process your request."

I have been with vodafone for 7 years, my email address is exactly that one used on my account, and the IMEI code is that from the phone supplied by vodafone so it should exactly match.  Why can't I get an unlock code when I am doing everything right?
