activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

I have just received my pay monthly micro sim for my iPad 2.  I have installed it but after searching for the network it always displays No Service.  I know that there is a good signal where I am and I have even tried different parts of the house.  Interestingly when you go to Carrier in settings it shows Vodafone UK as an available network along with several others.  If I try to select Vodafone UK it says your selected cellular network is restricted.  It seems like my sim has not been activated but there were no instructions telling me how to activate and the Vodafone helpline is closed.  Does anyone have an idea what I need to do?

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

Hi Mfleming,

A very warm welcome to the Vodafone eForum from all of the team. :smileyhappy:

Can I ask if this issue is still ongoing?

The reason I ask is that the Micro SIMS can sometimes take up to 24 hours to be activated after registration.

If this is still ongoing, please reply to the email that I will send you shortly with your details and I will get one of our team to check your account and the SIM at network level for you. :smileyhappy:

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

My iPad was delivered last Wednesday, and I have had no 3g service to date.

I finally called Vodafone today, and was told I would have to take the device to the nearest store, as they had no record of the iPad contract. Having given my name three times, and read out the full number of the microsim, I was then put through to somebody else and had to start all over again.

I spoke to a rather brusque woman who asked for all my personal details and my sim number again, as well as what plan I was meant to be on. She conceded they had a record of my order, but not of its fulfilment. Perhaps I should just have kept quiet and I could have had a cheap wifi only iPad!!

Anyway, she seemed to think Vodafone was doing me a big favour in finally activating my iPad, and when I said "better late than never", she said "well I can only apologise for that" in the least apologetic tone I've ever heard.

I'm a newcomer to Vodafone, but I have to say that the iPad 2 seems to have shown your company in a very poor light in terms of both organisation and communication.

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

Hi.

I have a similar issue, I revieved my Micro-SIm on order number o230825948, plugged it in - the device recognises that there is a SIM installed but I have "No Service" in the top left of the screen. Looks as though the SIM hasn't been activated? The phone SIM that came with it works in my mobile phone and I have 3G connectivity no problem.

Can you help?

Thanks

Dean

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

Hi deanmitchell369 and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that your new micro SIM is not yet active. :smileysad:

It sounds like we simply need to swap the numbers over from the SIM you got with the iPad to the Micro SIM you have just had delivered. I'll send you an email over to the email address that you have registered with and we'll get this sorted for you. All you need to do is hit reply and fill in all of the information it asks for. We'll then get back to you as soon as possible

Thanks

Wayne

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

Picked up my ipad 2 from Vodafone store today after ordering online.

This was ordered on a 2 year contract but it was delivered to the store with a PAYG sim which I questioned.

They swapped the sim and gave me a different one. 8 hours later and it's stil saying no service. I don't really know if it's even recognising the care. Very little helpfrom the store and no included instructions (apart from insert sim and away you go!!)

Order number was o237427618.

Totally stuck now and not very happy.

Hi Robhellaby,

Can i ask if this has been activated yet for you?

The reason i  ask is that a SIM can sometimes take 24 hours to be activated, once this time has passed please let us know if you are still having any trouble connecting on your iPad 2.

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

I have just got my second sim card but still having a problem. I have a signal and Vodafone uk is displayed but keep getting told not signed up to a price plan. I have phoned Vodafone who assure me I,m connected. I have the pay monthly £7.50 contract. I have read different postings about APN settings. Can you confirm what they should be & if I,m doing anything else wrong. Thanks

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

Hi Del2137,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum :smileyhappy:.

To check your APN settings go to Settings > Cellular Data. They should be as follows:

APN: Internet

Username: web

Password: web

If those are correct but you're still not able to connect then try switching to another carrier (which will fail) and then back onto Vodafone as this will force a network update on the SIM card.

Give those suggestions a go and let me know how you get on.

Kind Regards,

George.

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

Hi Del2137,

To be honest I think the next best thing t do is to take a look at the setup on the network for you to make sure the entire relative APN’s are correctly provisioned for you.

So we can do this please reply to the email that I have sent you with your details and I will get one of the team to take a look for you.

Re: activating pay monthly sim on iPad 2

Same problem here.  I phoned over a week ago after inserting my pay monthly microsim & getting "no service" all the time.... and was told it was being activated from vodafone end.  No joy.  Still no service over a week later.  APN settings seem correct.  Have connected it to my Macbook pro & sync'd several times.  Can anybody help?

Thank you,

Heather
