ie near house or not can you access safari, app store etc ok?

My daughter has the iphone so needless to say I can'y get my hands on it right now to check the settings. However, the phone wont connect to the internet at all when out of range of the house wifi, google, safari etc. As soon as she tried we got the ...'not subscribed to a mobile data service' message. I read a post on Google from someone with a similar problem but that was linked to Tesco and O2 not Vodafone?

When you are out of range of your home wifi are you getting a 3g or 'E' signal or only 2g. Also the wifi networks you are trying to connect to away from the house, are these secure networks for which you need the password or open free ones such as Mcdonalds and Costa coffee have?

Yes when we are away from the house the phone does show 3g or E network availability.

Ah, in that case it cant't be what I was thinking.
Have you tried to reboot the phone? ie Hold down both the sleep and home button (ignore the slider at the bottom) until the Apple logo appear, then release the buttons, the phone will close down and then reboot of its own accord (maybe up to 2 mins). Does that solve your problem?

I've got a feeling that it may be the settings on the handset that is causing this issue. Can you go to
Settings
General
Network
Mobile Data Network
....and list all of the settings you have in there. This will allow us to see whats right and whats wrong within the settings for the data network connection.

Username: tescowap
Password: password
This looks wrong because it is clearly pointing to the tesco service and not the vodaphone one.

Hi there ihate02,
Those settings are definitely incorrect.
What you need to do is to connect the handset to iTunes with your Vodafone SIM inserted and iTunes should automatically update those carrier settings with the correct Vodafone ones.

The phone gets connected to iTunes quite regularly, yesterday being the last time and it appears to sync OK.
Do I need to force an update by doing anything special in iTunes?
