iPhone 4 email problem

Any emails that I receive on my iPhone 4 do not subsequently appear on my PC using Outlook.  I want them to appear on both (like they did with the Blackberry i have just replaced).  If I check email on my PC first, I can read all my emails and they still appear on my iPhone.  If I check them on the iPhone first then they don't appear on my PC.  Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Re: iPhone 4 email problem

Hi TonyM19,

The iPhone will pull the messages from the server, and like a PC, it can sometimes be set to delete them from the server when it has them.  Depending on the type of e-mail account it is (POP/IMAP), you may be able to change its behaviour and get it to leave a copy on the server, which you can subsequently view on your PC.

If it is a POP account, on the iPhone you can try looking in Settings, Mail Contacts etc, Email account, Advanced, remove from server and select NEVER and see if this resolves the issue (Not sure if that is a general option though, or if it specifically refers to deleted items only)

On an IMAP account, as far as I am aware, it just synchronise the mailbox with what is there, and would not remove them unless you told it to delete them, when it will put it into a trash folder, which would still be accessible from Outlook allowing you to view the messages (albeit not in the folder you need them to be in, but they can be moved)

Hope this helps

Re: iPhone 4 email problem

Thanks for the response

If it was a pop account it was already set to never delete from server.

I created a new email account (and was not asked for any pop or smtp details - does this make it an IMAP account?  How can you tell one from the other?  Do you have an option to choose which type when setting the account up?

I deleted the original account and its working fine now

Re: iPhone 4 email problem

Hi TonyM19

Thank you for your posts and I am pleased to see that this is now working.

When you configure an email on an iPhone this will automatically configure the settings, the only real method of identifying what type of account you have is by looking on your email providers settings.

Many Thanks
