Hey. I have already searched, but can't seem to get the definitive answer. I also phone the VF call centre, and they told me something different. If I get an iPhone4S, will tethering be included in my tarriff? Also, will the data allowance I get be able to be used for tethering? I am an entirely new customer to VF. Thanks in advance. I just want to get the proper answer before ordering.

All the new Y4 tariffs include tethering as part of their data allowance, its only the older tariffs that charge separately. So unless you strangely get placed on an old tariff, it will be included.

Rupert, thanks. Will I have to do anything to have tethering/sharing activated on my profile/iPhone, or will it just be there? I am coming from O2, where it's just ready to go.

Hi Spacer

Your account will already be provisioned to use tethering so you'll be able to use it straight away. On your iPhone you would need to switch on the Personal Hotspot feature in settings to enable tethering through your device, and as soon as you've finished tethering just switch it off again.

This information is wrong. I have just phoned Vodafone sales and they have told me that data tethering is EXCLUDED from all the new iPhone 4S price plans and will cost an extra £10 a month on all deals including SIM only.

I think Vodafone should make their exact position on this VERY clear on the same pages as they advertise their tariffs.

With regards to pricing for tethering on iPhones, it will depend on the price plan that you're on. If you are on a price plan taken out before 1st June 2011 then tethering is charged additionally. If you use tethering then you would be charged £5 per 250MB of usage, or you can add an additional tethering bundle od 2GB for £15 per month.

If you are on one of our new YP4 plans and have either taken a new contract or upgraded to one of these plans since 1st June 2011, tethering is included from your standard pay monthly data allowance, so providing you're within your allowance you would not be charged additionally for data. If you exceed then you would again be subject to additonal data charges of £5 per 250MB. You can also add additional data of 2GB for £15 as above.

I have only half an hour ago been told by Dave O at Vodafone, who specifically checked with his Manager that you can tether, however it will eat into your data allowance far quicker than if you were just using the phone.

Tethering is Free with Three's 'All you can eat' (450gb Fair usage) data plan with the iPhone. 

If Vodafone is supposed to be a 'Leader' in the world of mobile communictions, why can't they compete? Even the Three 3G coverage has Vodafones beaten (officially and from awards).

I spoke to voda today & was told that I cant tether my iphone 4s !!!   Good old vodafone.

Am stuck with these jokers till next July - my fault I should have stayed with O2.

Can you tell me what you mean when you say that you have been told that you cannot tether your iPhone?

Providing you are on a compatible price plan, everybody should be able to tether their iPhones. Have you tried it? If you have, what happens when you tether? Do you get any error messages?

Hi. I have an iphone 4s which I upgrade to when it came out. Is tethering included or not? Everywhere I am reading different things! I have look at the different options and tethering with my phone would be best for me, as I don't use it very often. But can you tell me if it is in my plan or not, as I can not see it listed anywhere? I am on a 18 month contract, and paying £36 a month. I don't want to just try it out, and get charge £5 for it. Can you clear up this for me please!

Hi Shearingo,

If you took one of our current price plans when you upgraded, then tethering is inclusive with your data allowance. There's no automatic charge for using it - that's for iPhone users on older price plans only.

Thanks for getting back to me, is there a way to check i am on the new contract for sure? All it says in my account is: Your Plan comes with 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 500MB mobile internet and 2GB BT Openzone Wi-Fi. I don't think Vodafone know themselves.
Most of my colleagues who have the iPhone get charged for tethering I've been on a number of sites and it seems 50/50 if you get charged or not.
Depending on what call centre you get through to be it the uk,India or Egypt you may get three different answers if that is possible.
