I'm really confused as to whether tethering is available to Vodafone iPhone SIM only, pay monthly customers.....

I purchased my iPhone from Apple in an unlocked state. Then went to a Vodafone store to purchase a SIM only PAYM pack. At the time I made sure tethering would be available and told it was. This is important to me as the tethering functionality of the iPhone 4 key to me when travelling. I was led to believe it would work 'out of the box' on the 500MB for £5 option but there are others I could choose from by calling in to 191.

I've been playing about with my iPhone and Mac laptop for a while trying to get it to work, with no joy.

I see on these forums that tethering for iPhone SIM only PAYM accounts has been added by the mods, however, I called CS on 191 today and was told by two different people that I can't have tethering.

I find it really frustrating that there is no clear consensus as to whether I can or can't be added!

yes it is available, what happens is that when you enable teathering and connect you get charged £5 pounds immediately and you can use 500Mb.

But when I try to activate tethering on my iPhone in the menu it tells me to visit a Vodafone web page which has no content about tethering!

Has anybody got this working?!

It's definitely possible to add the tethering facility to iPhone SIM only accounts - but it needs to be specifically added and when it is, the 'set up' message will be replaced by an on-off slider, as the phone can 'see' the tethering APN on the account.

For some reason, CS seem to be impenetrably unaware of this - the mods here however aren't and I'm sure will be along to sort this for you.

Be aware, on SIM only you can't have a tethering bundle, but if you use less than 1GB of data per month, the bundles don't make sense.

Markb and James, thanks for your replies, this sounds like excellent news as I'm more than happy to forgo the bundles option and just use the 500MB for £5 pay as you use allowance if it will work

hmm, that sounds unfair if i use 50Mb a day before my bill arrives means i lost 450Mb and paid 5 pounds.

I am having the same issue. I'm on a SIM-only plan. The sales team tells me I have tethering on my account and that it should work. The tech team says I'm not on an iPhone contract and therefore I can't use tethering. The two are unable to reconcile this. Any ideas for how to proceed?

Could you please enable Tethering on my account too, i rang CS yesterday and got told i cant have it as im on Sim Only and i would have to upgrade to a iPhone contract. When i asked what the difference was all he could tell me was that i get a iPhone and its more expensive.

I basically told him well im not going to be wasting my money upgrading for nothing, but i knew it would be possible as been told false information before by CS and re-rang about same issue to get it sorted in the past.
