Welcome to Vodafone Community
Hi, I recently upgraded to the Blackberry Torch 9810, one of the feature shown on the Vodafone web page is BBC iplayer. I have downloaded the BBC mobile app and I am connected via wifi . . . . but whenever I try to use the iplayer I get a message saying something along the lines of "your phone is not supported by the application" . Am I doing something wrong? or is Vodafone's data sheet wrong!?
It's over to you guy's, are you able to use the BBC iplayer on your BB Torch 9810?
Can you confirm where you saw the link for me, as we don't have any BBC iPlayer links in our Apps and Downloads centre on the site?
As the app iss a third party product, the best guide for BBC iPlayer compatibility is the BBC's own iPlayer help section. This advises that there is no currently supported BlackBerry App, however some models can view the site over the browser.
Hi, yes I received a link via email from Vodafone Tech. Support Team "ANOVO", this is the link address;
What is disappointing me is the fact that the older Torch 9800 is supported & the Vodafone tech. info. page says this phone is supported!
Also this 9810 has the same OS as my wife’s new 9900 Bold and iplayer works fine on her phone.
If there is another method or link you can provide I would be very grateful
The 'app' is no more than a redirect (a shortcut to the BBC website).
OS7 allows you to do the same thing from inside the browser (find bbc.co.uk iplayer page, either bookmark inside the browser or select Add to Home Screen).
The latter puts a little icon (a screenshot of the current webpage) on your home screen.
So . . . I went to the BBC iplayer home page via a google search on the phone. As soon as I get to the iplayer home page I face the same message "Your phone is not supported". Did I do something wrong?
I can't think of any reason why the BBC would treat an OS7 9900 any differently to an OS7 9810.
Are your Browser options all the same settings as your wife's?
I have a torch 9860 and however i try to access iplayer on it I get an error message saying my phone isn't supported.
The bbc website says that the torch 9800 (presume thats all 98** blackberrys) is supported for all but downloading catchup tv.
I'm trying to access through the browser on my blackberry (e.g. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer) and i'm trying this at home connected to my talktalk broadband via a netgear router.
Although it would be nice to download programmes I'd just be happy to stream live tv.
please could someone help?
98** takes in a range of different devices but there should be no reason for the newer 9810 & 9860 devices failing when the older 9800 is supported.
We never heard whether Darreng20 got iplayer working on his 9810.
I have to say though watching tv on a small screen is REALLY tedious! (I know the 9810 & 9860 have bigger screens than my 9900 but still.)
When I select a program the browser goes to an mp4 file (in the case of the first program on the list : rtsp://188.8.131.52:554/3gpclip/iPlayer/prod_3gp_mpeg4_med/wifi_Free_Speech_Episode_2_b01fkclc_1333601688.mp4). This video file automatically opened the Media Player & began streaming.
Are you able to access this mp4 directly from your BB?
it tries - it says 'buffering' and i get the animated circle of lines and then it says 'an error has ocurred trying to play media'.
I think i used the correct url - the url is very long and quite tricky to type! I emailed it to my blackberry but it split across 2 lines so I couldn't use it a as a link.
Were you on a wifi connection?
When connecting yesterday, I had almost no buffering (average broadband connection - nothing lightning fast).
Try emailing the following (same page, just behind a link). iplayer link
I've tried playing with various options (in Browser & Media Player) but I can't get my 9900 to fault.
It could be worth asking the Beeb if they know of any compatibility problem with Blackberry 98** models. From App World, the support contact is firstname.lastname@example.org
I wondwr if the problem is caused by being redirected to the mobile site? i guess it autodetects the device and gives an error message. I don't know how to force the browser to stay on the normal, full fat site.
There is an option on the BBC Mobile homepage to force the Desktop Site (down at the bottom of the page) but it doesn't seem to carry through to IPlayer.
As you said, it must be something in the redirect. I wondered whether it was something to do with detecting screen resolution but the 9810 & 9900 both have 640x480 pixels (though your 9860 is 800x480).
Can you go direct to www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/tv?
Thanks for your post. I've just checked BlackBerry World and it's still there - BlackBerry World
Have you done any firmware updates recently or changed your phone?
