Just received a "Refurb" unit from Vodafone, following a white screen of death with my original.
Tried to text, (or email or anything else at all) and found the spacebar does not work.
2 questions - 1) is there something I can do to rectify this, and 2) what do Vodafone mean by the certificate they send with the unit which says "This certifies that the enclosed "exchange" device has undergone an end to end test ......." Clearly it has not been tested with any degree of competance!
Do I have to send the thing back AGAIN? If so, it clearly is not fit for purpose.

I can't think of any way of deactivating the spacebar in normal use (or any reason to want to) - so I don't think there's any way of rectifying it yourself.
There's an outside chance that it's software (OS) related - in which case a battery-pull or an OS re-install might rectify - but, if the rest of the keypad is working correctly, it's more likely that the BB hasn't been reassembled with sufficient care.
If it was taken apart during the refurb process, it sounds like the spacebar hasn't aligned with its notch on the pcb. Or the pcb is faulty. Perhaps this is why it was sent for refurb in the first place?
The certificate, unfortunately, is another example of paperwork for its own sake ... a placebo to make the recipient feel warm & cosy. Ultimately, not worth the paper it's written on.

Figured there is no use reason to mess with the spacebar - and also that it was a re-assembly issue - from a quick google there are a number of instances that seem similar.
My main grouse is the very poor service - send it off with one problem, comes back with another, equally as bad.But they have my money, so why would they care.....?

I must admit that this is a strange one however, the bad news is that it’s not a known issue with the phone so it could be caused by a few things outlined by paulj1.
The good news is that we can get this sorted for you by sending the phone away again to the repair centre who will then be able to get this sorted for you.

I note the "send it away AGAIN" phrase. That is my real concern. Have already been without the BB for 10 days because of the original issue. How long will it be till I get a working BB? Called the servce centre on Saturday...awaiting confirmation that return pack has been dispatched, but not yet..........
And could you explain EXACTLY how the BB was tested before it was sent to me? Two points to this - I was advised it would be returned with the latest o/s flashed (it wasn't) and i would expect ANY test (to include the spacebar) so either it wasnt tested or it was tested incompetently. Either way, that is not acceptable.
