25% Or Not When Cancelling By Phone?

I spoke yesterday to 191 and they advised that as I want to upgrade to a Vodafone iphone when they are released in January, and keep my existing number, I MUST call them to settle the existing contract and set up the new one with my current number.
However, if I call and don't email, am I still eligible for the 25% discount?
I didn't think to ask them at the time and can't get back through now.
Thanks for any help mods.

.... weren't sure about the ex-vat deal....
By the way, Its ex VAT and then a further 25% off.
I was told by 191 Retention team that they are aware of the VAT off deal but as I said, I failed to ask about the further 25% issue when cancelling by phone - Hence this thread.

As stated by Ofcom, the Early Termination Fee (or ETF), is your remaining contractual monthly line rental added all up, excluding VAT (as VAT is for services rendered), with a discount of 25%. If anyone is having trouble with this - it'll be a shame to see you leave - but we're here to help as always.

Daz - This 25% also applies when you cancel by phone? I would imagine it does, but just want to be crystal clear on this.

Hi Maskerade,
Thanks for posting. I can confirm that the 25% discount does apply when cancelling over the phone, it is applied automatically by our billing system and would show as a credit on the final bill.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Thats certainly interesting to read as my wife wanted to do this with her contract about 3 or 4 months ago and was told, in no uncertain terms that they (VF) can not transfer numbers from one VF contract to another VF contract. She was told this by at least 6 different customer service workers including a manager. This was really annoying for her as she is self employed and that was her business number.
She ended up taking out new contract with a new number as they wouldn't transfer her old number across or give her the package she wanted on the old contract!

Most odd. Perhaps I had a rouge agent. Mods care to comment? Can you do the above or not?

I can't believe people are willing to pay off their contracts and then sign a new deal with VF for a storm 2 or iphone. You should be running for the hills or to O2 or orange for the iphone after the way VF are treating their customers.
I agree 100% why would anyone in their right minds effectively give in to VF. My storm was binned two months ago, now have an officially unlocked iphone using same plan which i am reducing down by £5 per month as don't need the full tariff had with storm (due to getting phone free) but once out of contract its bye bye VF have already cancelled 3 phones, home broadband and a mobile broadband with them this year due to the way they have p****d me off with the storm, a total loss to them of £140 per month + just shows howw little they care about customers, so why give them more for free. I'm off to orange when my last contract finishes after being with VF for 21 years.

I would expect your answer to be the correct one, I couldn't understand at the time why they couldn't do it when you can easily transfer between networks and keep you number!

the way to do it, as such, would be to cancel with your 30 days notice, and request that at the 30 day point your moved onto PAYT, now when you end up on PAYT you can then walk into a shop and go `im on PAYT, i wanna move to a contract and keep my number` and all will be well
its true you cant transfer part way thru contracts and stuff, but at that 30 day point when your moved onto PAYT you are no longer in the contract so same rules apply as per any PAYT customer.
silly way to do it, but thats the way ut has to be done

Daveastra is spot on here (Thanks Daveastra
A PAC code will only work when moving from one network provider to another, this wont work internally from one consumer contract to another as they are not designed/coded to do this.
I know it seems a silly and long winded process but its the only fix we have in place at the moment for circumstances like these.
If there is anything else you need you know where to come

Hi Guys
Daveastra is spot on here (Thanks Daveastra) you have to follow the process he has stated and this is the only way you can keep your number other than upgrade at the end of your current commitment.

Thanks Matthew and daveastra.
Now if only my wife had actually been told that it would of made life a bit easier, rather than her being told at the 30 day point 'it could be moved onto a new contract', then when it came to the end of the contract commitment being told 'it can't be done'.
Perhaps there are just a 'select few' that actually know the process? Because, as I stated earlier, she was told it can't be done my numerous different people, meaning she ended up keeping her old number on PAYT (so she still had the number for her clients) and then taking out a new contract aswell = additional (and un-necessary it appears) cost!

Well since I started this thread I've had a few more dealings with VF Customer Services and my "give them a chance" attitude has changed.
I've asked to cancel my contract (by email as it happens) and will be leaving Vodafone for the first time. I seem to recall that I've been with them since my first mobile back in the 80's but this is too much.
My whole family is on VF (due to my recommendation) and that will be changing over the coming months too.
I appreciate the mods on here do their best and I feel sorry for them getting pummelled on here but the company has let everyone down, their staff and their customers.
I don't particularly expect this post to stay up for long as it's not a technical one but that doesn't matter.
Goodbye everyone.
