BB Torch 9800 Question Please

Hi

Got myself a Blackberry Torch 9800 today (pause for dramatic effect).

However; sorry, VF, it isn't with Vodafone (Dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dumma-dum! (that drum bit at the end of Eastenders episodes))

First thing to say is that I love it. So much better than the Storm1/2, and the internet experience is far cleaner.

I like the OS 6.0 too (mine's currently 6.0.0.246). I won't be able to check for updates until I get home on Friday evening.

On the OS v5.0 I was able to change the layout of the home screen in that I was able to have displayed any texts, calls and the notification which showed upcoming calendar events (it was the layout option called "today".

I don't seem to have a "today" option on the v 6.0. Is it there or has it gone?

I was very impressed with the bundle I got with it:

2000 any network minutes, 5000 minutes 3-to-3 calls, 5000 UK texts, 150 picture emails (which do not come off from data allowance) and 2GB (yes 2GB!!!) of data allowance for £40 per month :)

Many thanks.

hi myrm, nice to see your back with blackberry, yes it still has a today section, if you tap the bar where new notifications appear (between profiles and universal search) the you`ll be given the today page, tap in the same space to go back.

the alternative if your after a fixed version is as im sure you know a theme

BB Torch 9800 Question Please

Hi Dave

Yes, back with BB.

I really do like the iPhone 4 but I just don't like how "closed" it is. I can't adapt it to my personal preferences as much as I can with a BB. I still think the iPhone is one of the best handsets for internet use, though RIM really have got all their poo in one sock with this one. I will probably give my iPhone 4 to my 13-year-old nephew.

What is the latest offical VF version of the software? I am just curious as to how it differs from provider to provider.

Oh, and thanks for the advice on the Today option. Hopefully further updates may bring back the Today option as a default overlay on the home page. :)

BB Torch 9800 Question Please

there is a .28x something firmware, but tbh i would skip it. if you want to stay legit, stick with 246 for now, if you like walking on the wild side, the latest leaked version .337 which is much better :)

Hi Darkone.

I think with this BB I will stick to the official carrier releases.

BB Torch 9800 Question Please

I have had the phone for 24 hours now. I love it.

The only thing that I find a little disappointing is the low resolution of the screen. But then again perhaps I was spoilt with that of the iPhone 4.

BB Torch 9800 Question Please

I have another question please.

How do I turn on the CAPS LOCK on my BB T 9800?

The manual says;Touch and hold the Shift key until the lock indicator appears on the
key. To turn off CAP lock, tap the Shift key again.
However, no matter how long I press the shift key down for the CAPS LOCK doesn't function. It just capitalises the letter I press immediately afterwards and then reverets back to lower case.

Not sure what all that rubbish is that appeared in my last post but amongst it all is:

The manual says:

Touch and hold the Shift key until the lock indicator appears on the keypad. To turn off CAP lock, tap the key again.

thats all i do. on the virtual keyboard, hold your finger on the caps key (or the number key) and it will lock into either CAPS or numbers. Pressing the key again (on the virtual keyboard) will turn the option off.

Another way of doing capitals is to hold down the letter (for about a second or 2) on the physical key board and it will capitalise it.

Virtual keypad:

tap and hold the aA button until the opposite sid to that your holding changes to a blue outline, then let go, you`ll notice the lock now shows. tap aA to remove caps lock

tap and hold 123 button until the numbers/symbols show, then let go, now its num locked, tap again to remove lock (you dont see the blue ring on this one for some reason until you let go)

BB Torch 9800 Question Please

I do not know if it is just a setting I have on my BB Torch but I have noticed that the accelerator (the switching of the display into landscape mode when you rotate it onto its side) only works when the slider thingy is close.

Is it a setting or is it just the way it is?

Thanks.
