BlackBerry Bold 9700 & TomTom

Hi all,

I'm striggling to connect my Bold 9700 with my TomTom 930 traffic, I've managed to get the bluetooth sorted and can transfer the address book, but I can't get it to set up a wireless connection.

I've disabled the encryption on the bluetooth but nothing, anyone any ideas??

regards

Steve

BlackBerry Bold 9700 & TomTom

Hello Trainman and thanks for posting.

The Tom Tom's generally need to be paired up via Bluetooth before any connection is at all possible, this would be the first step.

The second step is to ensure that you're using the exact same APN settings as those on the Blackberry, namely;

APN: internet
Password: web
Username: web

Additionally, is your Blackberry successfully connecting to any other devices via Blue Tooth?

Thanks

Blackberrys have address book protection. You need to enable address book transfer or access via the menus.

Re: BlackBerry Bold 9700 & TomTom

I'm having the same issue with my Blackberry 9700 - previous Blackberry models have connected absolutely seamlessly with my TomTom GO720, but this one simply refuses to set up the wireless data connection. I have tried using each of the four standard models of Blackberry in the wizard, I have tried multiple combinations of manual settings, and all to no avail.

It seems from other posts/forums that turning *off* the Encryption option in the Bluetooth options for the connection to the TomTom has worked for some people, but I have done that too, and still no joy.

What I have tried manually is:

APIN: internet

User: web

Psswd: web
DHCP: Automatic

DNS: Automatic

Initialization string: AT, AT+1, AT+1, "...", AT+1, "...", "internet", etc, etc. (there is a sting represented by "..." which I can't remember off-hand!

Phone number: *99# and *99*1#

Anyone at Vodafone managed to get this combination working? Or is this a case of "never the twain shall meet"? The TomTom is also incapable of setting up a wireless connection via my iPhone4, so I am now down to using ALK Co-Pilot on the iPhone, which is OK but the traffic service is nowhere near as good as TomTom, and I like my GO720 a lot in all other respects...

Re: BlackBerry Bold 9700 & TomTom

Im experiencing exactly the same problems right down to my iphone 4s also not being able to connect to my TomTom. I desperately need to be able to use traffic updates for my 4 hour daily commute and I refuse to go and buy YET ANOTHER phone that I cant use. Shame on TomTom for making it so damn difficult....so vodaphone - whats the solution???

We cant be the only 2 people who want to be able to do this and both sites say its possible....so HELP!!!

Re: BlackBerry Bold 9700 & TomTom

Hi Kissmekat,

Thanks for posting. I've had a browse through TomTom's own forum  and I'm afraid I've not been able to find anything to support your query. We've lots of users who use the eForum on a weekly basis so we can hope somebody who uses TomTom can help suggest something.

Don't forget, there are loads of fantastic Apps available with turn by turn directions for download so worst case scenario, you won't need to go out to purchase another handset. :smileywink:

For anyone within their 7 day cooling off period with a new phone that won't pair with their TomTom, don't forget you can change your mind and exchange the device to a different model by calling our returns team on 191. :smileyhappy:

Cheers, Ben
