I took out a contract with vodafone for the storm 2 back in november 2009 when it first came out. After one week of having the phone i had problems. All the usual suspects associated with the Storm device's. Screen freezing, screen double clicking, phone swithing itself off. And the most annoying, not being able to end a call!!!! God forbid anybody ever missed the call and it went to answer machine, they would without a doubt get a voicemail of around ten minutes long of me trying to put the phone down. With no luck, and then eventually me pulling the battery out.

At first the faults where only occuring about once a month, so i left it as i use my phone to communicate with work, and didn't have the time to send it off for repair which is what i was told to do in the shop.

Then the faults started to occur weekly, and eventually daily. I eventually rang up vodafone and they told me they would send me a new phone the next day. They did and it was working fine for the first few days, and then eventually the same problems as before cropped up. Being my second storm 2 i was already familiar with the problems. I tried updating the software, deleting everything off it and restoring it to factory settings again. Nothing worked. I have since rang vodafone, and they say that they have 'no registered faults' with the storm 2 model. Absolute bull!!!! I have googled my problem as everybody does when they get a problem with something, and there are countless forums dedicated to problems with the storm 2 device. The list is endless. Some say that certain models where recalled due to their faults!!!!

I am sick to death of my storm 2, and when i rang today i asked about cancelling my contract/ swapping phones. I don't mind staying with a blackberry phone, but i am actually sick of my storm 2. I have had to settle for another refurbished storm 2, arriving tomorrow, but if i get the same problems i am seriously considering cancelling my contract, which is a shame because vodafone offer quite good data plans etc!!

Is there any way i can change my handset at all?!?! I'm sick to death of being told there are no faults with the storm 2's!!!!

Pleaseeee help me!!

as no Handset modifactions are required its ok with VF group PLC.

You won't be able to 'cancel' your contract, u'd have to pay it off early which will be lots of money.
The only option VF are going to offer you is another refurbished Storm 2, over and over so i think its extreamly unlikely u'll get a different handset altogether.

Official quote from the man from VF Group PLC.

All of this does not change the basic rule around the effect of Firmware on your warranty - only firmware updates you are able to install without any modifications being made to the device will keep the warranty valid. If you de-brand the handset, or make any other kind of alteration which allows it to accept a non Vodafone UK firmware release that it would not normally be able to install, this will invalidate your warranty.

I am told that that no modifications to the handset are required to install .713 so the warranty will still be valid.

I spoke to vodafone again yesterday and they said the same, if i want to cancel my contract i can but i have to pay the remaining months off, which is around 324.00. May possibly do this if the problems continue with my new storm 2.

Also, does anybody know if after three phones you can 'swap' your phone for one of the same make?
ie a blackberry in my case?

I've heard that this is the case, but i'm not too sure if it's true with vodafone. It was the policy when i was with orange, so not sure if itsd the same? I am actually sick to death of the storm 2. Soooo many problems!!!!

Also... don't know if anybody experiences this but... i seem to be unable to get signal in my own house, anywhere, the most i get is about one bar for two minutes then if i try to send texts it goes straight to 'SOS'.

Used the vodafone website to check signal for my area and postcode and it says 'Excellent Strength' on the general signal bit.

Any admin got any answers to this? Have friends who pop round now and again on vodafone and their signal strength seems to be fine wherever they are. I'm starting to wonder if it's a problem with the handsets. As my last storm 2 had the same problem.

How old is your SIM card? It has been said before that old SIM cards can affect the quality of the signal you receive. I'm not sure if there is any science behind this but it seemed to work for my wife who has a BB Bold on a VF contract. It seemed to enable her to get a much more stable 3G signal although I can not explain why this would be.

A new sim is free in any VF shop and they will give it to you there and then after aquick security check.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you've been experiencing with your Storm 2. I can confirm that you wouldn't be able to swap your handset for another model of Blackberry without paying off the remainder of your contract or upgrading within the last 180 days of your contract. If you would like to explore this option then our Upgrades Announcement has details of how to contact us directly.

As Big Al zz has mentioned, it may also be worth considering replacing your SIM card, this can be arranging via any Vodafone Store or via customer services on 191. This could well resolve your coverage issues.

In regards to the firmware update, the latest version that we've approved for Vodafone UK Storm 2s is 5.0.0.497. Updating to a later version than this that we haven't approved may invalidate your warranty.

The thing is, because you have been given a rubbish handset in a contract your tied into why should YOU have to pay all that money just to get out of a contract that isn't much good without a working phone?

You could almost buy an iphone 3GS or 4 for that sort of cash, why not just do that.

The sim is not old. and to be honest if the sim's is going to be an issue i'm going to go back to orange because this is getting beyond a joke!!
got my fourth storm 2 the other day. and already the same problems cropping up!! screen freezing, double clicking. oh and it's developed a new one where it automatically opens and calls the first person in my recent calls list when i unlock it.
mega annoying. i'm going to go in and complain.

the sim i've had i got when i took out the contract in november last year. so a year old minimum.
had my last contract with orange, (which i came out of becaused vodafone claimed the best deals and then someone flogged me this peice of ######...) for 5 years, and i had the same numbe and same sim card throughout.

thanks for the help but i don't see any reason why the sim card would cause the problem with sim card when its not even a year old yet.

the list is absolutely endless.
screen freezing. battery life rubbish. turning itself off all the time. they're only a few on the lists.



Besides the point. Been on to vodafone yet again today.

And they have 'reduced my commitment' so i can upgrade today.
