Blackberry 8520 been on 'SOS' for last 5 days.. :(

Hi,  I have NEVER had any problem with getting a signal on my phone, however this last 5 days my Blackberry has been on an 'SOS' but ONLY when I'm in my house (KW1 AREA) It works fine everywhere else.

Travelled down to my nearest Vodafone store and tried explaining this to them but all they done was reset my phone and said 'Oh its working now'  They wouldnt listen to the fact its only in my house I'm not getting a signal and suggested that I get a new handset

Went onto the website to see if there is a fault in my area but I do not know what I am looking for.

Any information would be greatly appreciated as like I said before, I've never had any problem getting a signal in my house!

Thanks!

Hi,

i understand what you mean when people just assume your problem and dont listen.

whilst you're awaiting help from a more experience forum member or official, i would check if its just your sim not getting signal in your house by getting a Vodafone Payg sim. that should show you if the fault is in the sim or the handset.

i had that issue once and it was a faulty sim card.

Ok, what I've done...

Put my dad's Vodafone PAYG sim card into my handset and got full signal.

Put my own sim card into my dad's Sony Ericsson handset and also got full signal.

Put my own sim card back in my handset after this and it went straight back to SOS, I now

currently have 2 out of 5 bars signal.

Does this mean the problem is with my handset or sim because like I said previously, I'm

getting a full signal when not in my area e.g. my work 10 minutes away from the house...

Hi Jer1990

Thank you for your post and thank you 98butts for your awesome advice.:smileysad:

As you receive full signal on the other device there are two possible resolutions.

The first is that the SIM may be old and this is not working in your BlackBerry as it should, this can be resolved by getting a new SIM, you can pick one up free of charge from your local store and they can transfer your number and information across for you.

The second thing to try is to ensure that your device is currently up to date with the latest software, please ensure that you have the latest service books for your device, to do this

Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Highlight any of the numbers > press the BlackBerry Button then register

Please let me know how you get on.

Many Thanks

Re: Blackberry 8520 been on 'SOS' for last 5 days.. :(

Thank you for your help!!

I think the issue may be with my sim card, my nearest store is nearly 100 miles away in

Inverness but I will be going down there next Sunday so hopefully I'll be able to stick with

no signal for another week and get it solved in Inverness

Thanks! :smileyhappy:

Re: Blackberry 8520 been on 'SOS' for last 5 days.. :(

Been down to my nearest Vodafone store and they changed my sim card. However, this hasn't solved the problem! Have recently found out that there is a Vodafone mast very close to my work (but on the other side of town from me) and I always get a full signal there!

Just wondering if you would be able to find out if there are any signal issues on my side of town (KW1 5QJ) as I no longer believe that the problem is with my handset but with the network itself!

Thanks

Hi Jer1990

Thank you for your post and a it is great to see you again.:smileyhappy:

I have checked the local serving site which is 4738 and this is a 2G site (with 3G being rather sparse in the area) and I can see that there have been a number of failures.

So we can investigate this further please could you follow the Private Message I have sent, once we have your response we will be able to forward this on to our engineers.

You can find your PM inbox here.

Many Thanks
