Blackberry 9900 - Email Problems and Blackberry Internet Service Problem?

Hi,

On the email setup section it seems to go straight to the entreprise activation page and it wont let me add email accounts.

I've been on the blackberry site on my phone to try and intergrate my hotmail email account however it says "cannot create account. Your BIS aacount has been suspended or deactivated. Please contact vodafone". Monthly bills have been paid etc so all that is fine.

Would it be possible for a vodafone tech person to check my account to see if I had been properly connected up. Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi mattl123,

It sounds like the Blackberry service may have been removed from your account if you are getting that message.  It can happen when RIM flush their relays and it does not see your BlackBerry device, it can also happen if you change your priceplan, as this will temporarily remove and re-add the service to your number.  One of the MOD's may be along shortly, but if you want it resolved sooner, your best bet woiuld be to ring 191 from the handset and get them to check that the service is still attached to your number, and also to unsuspend or re-activate your mobileemail account.

Sorted, thanks! I rang up 191 and they sorted it very quickly.

Hi russellgoldman,

Thanks for your post here and welcome to the eForum from all of the team. J

To be honest it does sound like there is an issue with your BIS registration or subscription.

So that we can take a look at this for you I have sent you a quick PM, please follow the instruction on the PM and one of our team will be able to check that everything is set up for you correctly on your account.

You can find your PM inbox here.

Hello

BlackBerry 9900 here too.

Just bought a new BB 9900 locked to Vodafone privately, it's my first smart phone. Have been on Vodafone PAYG for ever and intend to stick with that too as it works for me.

Am registered with Vodafone and now also BB. Have tried to create a new BB email account via the Vodafone website but get the message ' invalid user name or password ' . I am not sure if the user required are my Vodafone account or my BlackBerry account, but as they are the same and I actually have them written down they are not incorrect.

I later noticed that I have to buy a Vodafone for BlackBerry email plan for £5.11 per 30 days to access email. this is on top of the PAYG fee, is this what is stopping me from completing the new account registration or am I missing something?

Thanks

ps: just to add when trying to register an email address via the phone I only get the 'enterprise option' as others have. I am working in France for 6 weeks and had bought the phone for occasional mobile internet so a bit disappointed at the moment, the phone works fine though apart from no email which was the reason for upgrading.

.

The Enterprise Option is for a company email connected to an Exchange Serve using the BES service (Blackberry Enterprise service).

What you need is the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) that allows you to set up personal email accounts. This is the option you need to add to your PAYG service for £5 a month.

Thanks jeffkinn

I added the BIS to my Vodafone account about an hour ago but that hasn't as yet added the option to add private emails, I still only have the enterprise option when I go to add an email address.

Does the add private emails option arrive on the phone at a later time?

Thanks

Re: Blackberry 9900 - Email Problems and Blackberry Internet Service Problem?

Firstly make sure BIS is active. Is 3G or GPRS in upper or lower case? If lower BIS is not active. If it is active have you performed a battery pull since you added BIS? If you have and it hasn't worked go into options -advanced options - host routing table. Press the Blackberry key and click on Register Now. If none of this works try setting up an email address at www.mobileemail.vodafone.net. After all of this if you are still having problems call customer services on 191. Good luck.

Hello and thank you again.

Couple of things to mention. First I was in the UK when I tried to register and set up email, but now am in France, wonder if this is a problem or should the network work where ever you are?

The signal here (very rural) goes from 1 bar to 5 bars and fluctuates. When it rises above 3 bars 3G appears in upper case, when at 3 bars or less the word 'edge' appears in lower case. Maybe the 7.1 OS doesn't put 3G or GPRS into lower case any longer?

I registered with Vodafone for email last night, about 8 hours later I received a text to show that I am now registered. The text also mentioned that I may have to remove the battery which I have done.

Since the battery pull I have registered again via the host routing table.

I have tried via the link below to create an account with the PIN and IMEI details, it fails due to the device is not registered with my wireless service provider?

Don't Vodafone and BlackBerry make life difficult just to do a very simple thing like register, no wonder there are lots of people in the phone shops having their phones sorted...  end of rant.

Thanks again for taking the time, I know you have explained all there is to know and I am very grateful. I will just have to wait for 5 weeks until I get back to the UK to be able to walk into a shop to get help. It's a bit frustrating after spending a lot of money and time that I have no more than I had last week with my old Nokia, a basic phone, but that's life. Thank you.

ps: forgot to mention that when I enter email accounts on the phone the enterprise option is the only one available, this is probably due to the device not being recognised as being registered although Vodafone have texted to say that I am.

Hope that by writing this in full it helps others that come along behind me. when the solution is found I will post an answer as to what has happened.

Re: Blackberry 9900 - Email Problems and Blackberry Internet Service Problem?

Email now working!

I ran the self diagnostic program which told me that voice and text were fine but data was not.

The message was   -   Data services setting is preventing a connection. Please modify Data Services settings

I followed the on-screen prompts which directed me to the page giving the status of each part of the service.

data   -  off

roaming   -   prompt

I changed both to on and re-sent the signal to BlackBerry to register the phone, 5 minutes later I was invited to enter my private emails and have successfully entered 2 so far from different providers.

All this was achieved with help here, a massive thank you as it prompted me to keep delving into the problem.

The other info which may help another lost soul such as myself, is that even with a UK supplied BlackBerry it is possible to register and set specifications from deep in rural France too.

Glad you are up and running. I didn't realise you were not in the UK otherwise I might have asked you to ensure that roaming was enabled.

Happy emailing.

Re: Blackberry 9900 - Email Problems and Blackberry Internet Service Problem?

The fact that roaming was on 'advise' would mean that if data was sent or received I would have been advised? But the fact that data was off was the killer I think as no data could be sent or received where ever I was.

Thanks again

Re: Blackberry 9900 - Email Problems and Blackberry Internet Service Problem?

That's right VeeVee - data off is a catch all to safeguard you against roaming charges.

I hope you are aware of the roaming charges you will be incurring from France - if not you'd better check out whata packages are available.

I'm not at all familiar with those tariffs so either someone else from the forum community, of the eforum team, will be able to advise you as to the best plan to be on.
