Hi,

I am currently living abroad in France using my english phone on vodafone passport and I also get 25mb a day of free internet usage. Despite this my monthly bill is still very expensive as I text a lot.

My boyfriend has a blackberry so I would like to know whether it is free to bbm abroad if I bought a balckberry too? Seeing as I have 25mb a day of free int(ernet I would have thought that I wouldnt incur roaming charges as that is quite a lot of data? A friend of mine who also uses her english phone here has free bbm and can receive her emails for free.

The other question is is it possible to "buy out" my contract as apparently I cant upgrade until june

Or could I buy a pay as you go blackberry and use my current price plan-600 minutes, unlimited texts, free internet, vodafone )assport and 25mb a day free abroad?

Basically I need to cut down on costs and fine the cheapest way to keep in cntact with England as I text a lot.

Text is always going to be chargeable if you are texting a 'foreign' mobile, whether a French mobile or a UK one.

BBM and email should be catered for under your existing data allowance as neither use a huge amount of data, unless you really go mad.

Other alternative is to unlock your phone and use a French SIM, but you'll still be charged for texting to a foreign UK number.

You can buy out your contract, it works out at the remaining months, minus 2% goodwill, minus VAT @ 20%.

Using BBM and data sensibly you should be OK on roaming data, depends on your long term ambitions, if staying in France then you need to be looking at a French operator, but then they will charge for texting the foreign UK mobile, but data will be cheaper.

Thank you. I'm only here on a short period so no need for a French phone, it wont save me anything!

So seeing as I get 25 mb a day data anywhere in Europe on my contract at the moment could I use this for a blackberry? Or does a blackberry have to be specifically used with a blackberry contract?

I couldn't find what I was looking for in the forum so decided to ask myself. I'm currently living in france and am using my british mobile. I know it costs 11p to text to the uk but I have a friend in germany who is also using her british phone and i'd like to know how much it would cost me to text them.
