I have had a 9700 for 2 years same usage patters locations etc etc as with new 9900 handset, and at present battery life is not on the same page as even a depleted 2 year old battery currently in the old 9700 ,is presently outlasting the new 9900
Day 3 usage and battery condition findings are as follows overnight charged to 100% i used BBM for 7 messages and placed a call for 3 min 46 seconds places 4 txts and received 7 emails downloaded a battery pro version of app to monitor battery closely
In the first 15 mins from unplugging without use battery dropped to 90% on both device and third party app.
Battery at 10% one hour earlier than yesterday so definitely battery has shown NO signs of improvement so far ??????
Remembering all news feeds are OFF/ Bluetooth OFF/ NFC OFF/ WIFI OFF/Backlight at 10% and 20 seconds.

Check whether you have a lot of applications running. If you don't want them to run in the background make sure you use the menu button and choose "close" or "exit". If you just click on another app - or go back to the home screen, then the app will still be running.
If you have apps like Facebook, Twitter, etc., look at how often they check for updates to messages. If you want them to continue to run then select a longer time between updates.
Also switch off the wireless option when you're not using it (this is a big user of battery power).
Switch off the vibrate option unless you really need it - it's another drainer.
Can you lower your screen brightness?
All of these things will make a huge difference to the battery life.

Hi Guys,
When it comes to the battery on a blackberry there a lot of things that can make a difference in how long the battery lasts including what was mentioned in BannaOffice’s post.
If you have tried the suggestions above, the only other thing that we would be able to offer would be a free of charge warranty repair which will repair any faults with the battery or battery connectors if it is these that are causing the battery drain issue.
I would give this a go and let us know how you get on.

Most of the US/CA guys are looking at second battery solutions.
4xx software is due to fix most of these isses.
Droid: HTC Magic (Cyanogen 7), Motorola Defy (Cyanogen 7), Galaxy Nexus (4.0.3), Xperia Arc S (2.3.4)
Tablets: iPad 2 (Verizon 5.0.1), PlayBook OS2 beta

Right i have had it with this battery issue. I have tried everything suggested and i still only getting 13 - 16 hours battery. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
Forum guys have you spoken to BB yet. This is cleary not a one off but a MAJOR problem. Now i know its not your issue. But yor customers are affected by this.
I want to know if this ######ty JM1 battery has a big brother. A JM5 or something.
Are BB aware of this major issue
Do they plan on doing anything about it ??
Can you provide some clear answers. I called the phone centre and was advised to carry a charger. WHAT A JOKE !!!
I really love the hand set and dont wanna give it up. But if nothing concrete is being done to resolve this issue i am off to my local vodafone shop to smash it all over the floor and demand a faultless 9700 again. Not one problem with that handset.

I wish I could say I don't feel the same but I do.
I have returned my 9900 and am now happily back on my 9800 (god its nice to be on something reliable).
Unfortunately the 9900 is showing all the signs of bad firmware on launch like the 9800 and 9700 before that, it should get a big update shortly, everyone has different issues.
.250 = really poor battery life
.296 = ghost messages / random freezing / reboots
.317 = ghost messages
There is a guy 16 days in and his battery now does 24 hours, it appears to take about 14 days to optimise the battery.

I agree with all that is said about the battery...BUT the problem is you ask the mods to look into it and then they put up a bog standard message that they will pass it on to the techies or whoever and then thats the last we hear about it......VF take ya money and think they can just fob us off...This also includes NFC.......WHY is it Orange have it and VF don't beggers belief.
So come on VF stop shafting us after you have our cash DO SOMETHING ABOUT ALL THE ISSUES!!!!!!!!.
Just my $$ worth

Hi
Although recently changing to an iphone after numerous blackberrys which I loved (thought I would give iphone a shot) I still monitor the updated handsets from RIM. I remember reading somewhere , Crackberry I think, that the new Bold 9900 actually has a lower capacity battery than the 9700. I imagine that will not be helping. To be honest there is no excuse from RIM as they took long enough to get the 9900 out there and customers should not be part of their beta testing which so often seems to be the case with all manufacturers. After a disasterous experience with a new release phone years back I have always since waited a few months before buying to ensure bugs are ironed out. As other posters have commented future software upgrades I'm sure will help battery life but again as I said it is rediculous that customers have to bear the brunt of these bugs.
Rant over and I hope you guys who are having problems get them sorted as the new bold, battery aside, looks like a brilliant Blackberry.
Ramsay.
