Blackberry PAYG roaming in Europe

Hello, I use a Blackberry Bold 9900 on PAYG and pay for the £5 per month Blackberry extra.

I understand that I would be able to use Blackberry email & internet whilst on holiday in Europe. I usually travel to either Malta or Switzerland.

Is it obligatory for me to have to opt in to Euro Traveller in order to use Blackberry services in either Malta or Switzerland or can I simply pay for the actual amount of data that I actually use?

I suspect that I would only use a very small quantity of data receiving emails whilst I was away - several megabytes maybe - and don't really need anything like the data allowance included within the £3 per day Eurotraveller subscription.
