Blackberry Storm - Poor Battery Life & Crashes With "App Error 532 - Reset" Message

Only had the storm about 4 months (24 month contract).

Battery life is dreadful, anyone have any tips on how to preserve it? (Bluetooth is off as that never seems to work anyway).

My main problem though is crashing. And lately it has been happening in the middle of the night, thus preventing my alarm from going off and in turn was late for work  .

It is becoming more frequent and basically I am getting a white screen with the message in tiny writing in the middle

app error 532
reset

This is a major inconvenience, especially when it happens during the night or when using the sat nav as I have to pull the battery. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I dont know about your crashing problem.. That would be extremly annoying. My battery life however has seemed to get better over time.

I did read somewhere that because of the battery type, think lithium or what ever that the more you charge the better they are. When at wrok mine generally lives in the usb dock so on constant charge. I dont have it on over night, but I can now usually relie on it lasting over the weekend.

Granted if Im on the phone lots itll go, but I mak alot of texts and read emails all over the weekend and it last through till sunday.

I have noticed though that it seems like lots of people using the offical .173 release have ben having problems with apps. My unoficial version though has been fine for months. So I dont know what VF have done to it.

Personally, and it is a pain if it is your first time, I would back everything up; do a low level wipe of the handset and re-install the operating system then everything you have backed up.

HOWEVER, the problem with this is that if the database (or an app) that you backup is corrupt in anyway you could just be restoring the corruption and get you back to stage 1.

Blackberry Storm - Poor Battery Life & Crashes With "App Error 532 - Reset" Message

Hi curw3n,

Thanks for posting this it is a strange error message you're getting and not one I've come across. My initial thoughts are to check for the latest firmware as other members have mentioned. The latest is .173. Are there any specific programs you're aware of that are throwing up the error? Also RobinM's advice is sound and it's definitely worth trying a factory restore on your Storm - be sure to back up your contacts, photos and music etc before running this:

Press the BlackBerry key
Press Options
Press Security Options
Press General Settings
Press the BlackBerry key
Press Wipe Handheld
Press Continue
Enter blackberry, press the Return key.

With regards to your battery ScottJGregory is absolutely right. The Storm has a Lithium-Ion battery and like most phones on the market it is best to keep the charg topped-up. The general rule is to try and not let the phone go below 40% and charge it up to full on each occasion. With this regular charging it helps prolong the lifespan of the battery and gives the software time to calibrate itself for the battery.

I noticed you mentioned you use your Storm as an alarm clock, have you seen the Desktop Charging Sync Pod accessory? This will ensure the phone stays fully charged up over night and it maintains a clock on the screen while connected (just a thought? :))

Let me know how you get on and if you have any further queries please feel free to drop us a post anytime.

Many Thanks,

Adam

As per Adam's recommendation of the charging pod, I would definitely back this up. I have one myself and use I nightly. There is not much to it, but is of a solid quality build that certain serves the purpose it was intended for.

Hi, thanks for your responses. However I'm reluctant to spend further money on a sugar coated phone charger. I charge it every night. Some nights it charges and lasts for 36 hours and dies when I'm in work. I have to charge it every night to keep it going. If I cant get to my charger one night I'm ###### the next day.

Also today I've missed a few KEY phone calls due to the ringer not sounding despite the loud profile being adopted, (email and sms notifications we played aloud). So I've decided to go for the factory reset.

Not happy, though.
