Blackberry Torch 9800 - P's & Q's

So hello to all my fellow new Blackberry Torch 9800 users!!!

Just thought I'd get this started to get an idea of what everyone thinks about this new phone, and if there's any questions or problems anyone has to report so we can all discuss.

Got mine this morning, absolutely love everything about it. Apart from 1 thing - The track pad on my particular Blackberry Torch feels SO unresponsive. I had a blackberry curve 8520 before and the difference is just shocking!!

Only had the phone less than 5 hours and I'm really disappointed that I might end up having to take it back already!!

Does anyone know if this is a registered problem or if it can be fixed? Or has anyone else had the same problem??

Need feedback guys.....

Hello,

I would suggest that you goto options -> typing and input -> trackpad sensitivity and maybe try changing the settings there for it?

What software version does your phone have installed? The original software for the Torch did have quite an unresponsive trackpad but I believe that recent updates have solved this problem.

Blackberry Torch 9800 - P's & Q's

I've tried to change the sensitivity on it but hasn't made a difference.

I'm running OS 6.0.0.246.

Plugged into Blackberry desktop to check for updates but nothing....

Any other ideas??

Have you tried setting the sensitivity to very low just to test it?, there should be a noticeable difference when you change the values in the options menu. If it does not make any difference at all then I would say there is a problem with the phone.

Blackberry Torch 9800 - P's & Q's

Hi,

does anyone know how (if it's possible) to get the 9800 to browse the internet using the wifi connection (ie connected to home broadband) rather than browsing over voda network ? Obviously can be quicker in a lot of cases and saves on using the internet allowance.

Also there doesn't seem to be different browsers like there was on older berrys unless I've just not found them yet (ie. use Blackberry browser or Internet Browser).

Blackberry Torch 9800 - P's & Q's

Hi everyone,

-(Hayley)- We don't have a Torch for testing yet so I can't say whether the track pad is being universally slow or its just a fault on your handset. If it doesn't change with the sensitivity then it may be broken and I imagine you must be in the first 7 days and are entitled to a brand new exchange.

crummock2 - In theory the BlackBerry should work on wifi even without a SIM as it doesn't need network input at all Try taking your SIM card out and seeing if the internet works with WiFi.

Thanks

Thanks Holly.

If it doesn't sort itself by tomorrow I'll take it in and swap it over.

Must have been me. I've just reconnected everything and it does indeed use the wifi in preference to Voda network when both are available so all is well.

Thanks again.

Going on from that has onyone tracked down a good source of BB Torch leather cases in the UK yet ?

Does anyone know if Vodafone stores stock any accessories for the Torch yet - mainly looking for screen protector and case?

Blackberry Torch 9800 - P's & Q's

Hi There Forum!

I've got 2 problems with my Torch.

1. My Sports function in the Camera doesn't work. The entire screen goes blank and any picture taken is blank.

2. Damn does the screen wiggle!

My torch is of Mexico Build F.

I think I'm going to do a swap bcos I can't seem to fix the camera function.. What are my options moderator? Can I take in to a VF store to get it swapped?

you have to swap it through the channel you purchased it through, so onlines are swapped by onlines, stores by stores, etc.

Oh cool.. Well that kinda sux.. Bet they'd only swap in once a new shipment comes in. Gotta say the device I seem to have got def doesn't look as brand new as phones I've received b4. The "maexico build f" sticker on the back has been pasted over another mexico build sticker which has got a diff I'd number on it. N the screen "protector" sticker seems to have already been half lifted off. Just technicalities but I get a funny feelin tt its related to the sports function on the camera not workin.

Got it browsing using my home network fine.

Haven't even put my SIM in yet, the Torch is going on charge for a good 24hrs and stick with my Storm 1 for the time being.

If you're moving your SIM from an old Blackberry don't forget to go to your Online BIS Account (if you have one) go to "Change Device" and tell it to "Detect New Device".

I found this out when I got an insurance replacement after my Storm 1 failed the coffee test. I was having a real headache trying to figure out why my e-mails weren't arriving. You can also send service books from here as well if you need to.

As for cases - it fits my Storm holster perfectly - less money to spend :)

The Torch also fits the Leather Curve cases quite snugly aswel - My curve 8520 is exactly the same size as my torch when the slide is shut lol

Hey,

As far as I am aware this is a problem with all the Torch's. I have had one for a couple of weeks and it seems to go to sleep quite often and you have to rub it a bit to wake it before it responds well. The newer software did improve it.

I had another one delivered from vodafone on wednesday and it still is the same and had even newer software .246 on it, which is what yours will be.

You do get used to its slow response after a while :D

Blackberry Torch 9800 - P's & Q's

Chris - thanks for that. Bit silly though isn't it? If we're buying phones like these we expect the features to actually WORK lol.

I think I'll get mine swapped and if the responsiveness doesn't improve then I'll just ask for a different phone. Paying £45 a month for a contract phone is hardly fair if the phone doesn't actually WORK!!

Personally I think they should have tried it with a track ball in it rather than a track pad - my boyfriend has the curve 8900 and it feels so much better in comparison.

I like the idea of the track pad as I have a curve 8520 also and have had no problems whatsoever with it - but if they can't match up the technology it seems a bit daft!

Have to wait and see what happens now...
