Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

Hello,

The Vodafone content is installed on all of the devices mentioned in this thread as standard services. Under normal circumstances, this content is downloaded as part of the initial set up when the device is switched on for the first time.

However, for a brief period the music service was removed from this initial set up process while performance enhancements were carried out. All of the other links and branded content would still have been installed during the set up and when the music services were reinstated, they would have been added to the device as part of its regular synching action.

There are no plans to delete the links and content from these devices moving forward and they take up minimal space on the handset's memory.

As a workaround the links can be hidden by doing the following:

-Highlight the icon
-Press the Menu button
-Press Hide

Thanks

David

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

We are not talking about a "music service".  The initial thread spoke of a music service, but we have gone beyond that now as new issues have occured.  The music service that you mention I assume is Vodafone Music.  I bought a vodafone mobile, so I fully expect, understand and am OK with Vodafone Music being installed on my phone.  However we are talking about 3rd party software, namely "Poynt".  This is not vodafone software, I do not need it, it doesn't even work properly on my phone as my handset doesn't have GPS, and I do not want it.

Your answer does answer the original thread message.  Please now answer the more recent questions which are not answered by your response.

Hi Kazman,

My Vendor ID is 120, and my phone is a BB curve 8520

What is your theory?

[ Edited ]

Well David,

Finally an answer........shame it is not correct.

Firstly, the 3 llinks appeared after i had had the phone for 3 weeks not on initial setup as you state.

Secondly, I do not care about voda music I am concerned as to why I have poynt ?

Thirdly, the Torch is not compatible with 360 so why would I want it?

More importantly I DO NOT WANT ANY OF THEM. YOu abused your position as supplier. You sent them to me unrequested or no information that I would get them as part of my agreement with voda. I class that as SPAM or BLOAT. You can call it what you like "enhancing the customer experiance" or other such drivel. All i want is them to be gone permanently not hidden.

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

Well, last night my wife turned off her BB9700 Bold, and this morning when she turned it on she noticed a new icon for Poynt. Neither of us had heard of it until that point, and we're not interested in it now (after some Googling). Heck, at first I even wondered if her phone had got hacked somehow. There's no Vodafone 360 junk involved here (it's not in her deal - the phone has Vodafone Live) - just an unwanted app appearing without any action on our part or any permission.

Poynt has appeared overnight. We don't want it. We can't kill it. Not only that, but we simply cannot ever trust it because of the underhand way it has arrived. Reading through the lack of useful responses in this thread (and especially the non-response from a mod on the previous page that was completely irrelevant at best with its references to Vodafone Music), I'm not confident of getting an answer to why this has happened (let alone a commitment that it won't happen again and a way of removing the offending app). This all reflects badly both on Vodafone and Poynt and also indicates the general powerlessness (or disinterest) of the moderators to get info from other areas of Vodafone, and sheer complacency on the company's behalf when it comes to responding to customers' increasingly frustrated requests for proper answers.

Hi theoddbod,

I had a similar situation when I first got it, I thought it was some sort of hack or virus.. in fact I even accused by better half of installing something on my phone!

Hi tienLung86

try installing the application, after you install it the option to delete is then available, I tried it on mine and works ok

only problem is that if you need to re-register for service books it will reappear

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

the thing is vodafone don't you get it?

We have an app store so we can choose what we want on our phones not you. That is the whole point of us complaining you don't understand, are not listening or genuinely don't care what the consumer / customer actually wants.

I want the freedom to choose what apps you put on the phone you tried with the Samsung Galaxy and failed, you tried with the HTC Desire and failed now you have tried with the blackberries and again none of us are happy that you have done it. It wouldn't be so bad if the 360 apps actually worked with the phones but they don't Poynt is the same we don't get the same features that the US users do so whty even attempt to try and con us into using it?

You are not allowed to do this to an Apple iPhone due tot he wat Cuppertino lock down apps and their delivery so why even attempt it with a Blackberry?

All you have done is anger and anoy your customer base.

Hi Kazman,

I tried this but unfortunately it re-appeared quite quickly.

Its a good try and better than anything any mod has suggested, so thanks!

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

There is a way to remove them.

You need to install a non branded OS on the Torch by following the instructions here:

(Remove the Vendor file)

Then reload the whole OS by downloading a non vendor specific OS by following here:

(Reinstall OS)

downside invalidate warrantyand loose data depending on your last backup, but then again you could allways reload official voda OS if it goes wrong.

It is one way of removing the Spam and Bloat from your phone.

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

The OS isn't branded, the phone is. Removing vendor.xml doesn't debrand anything, it simply allows you to install an OS that is not in your vendor's approved list.

While it is possible to debrand your phone, it's a bit more involved than deleting a file from the install directory.

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

none of the above removes them... I have an AT&T branded Torch, with a non VF branded OS version. My vendor id is for AT&T and yet I still got all the junk VF pushed to me (when i was roaming... no offer of a refund on that data charge!) You get all this for having your BIS service through VF, nothing on your phone will stop it sadly...

Right, 3 months this has been going on any chance of an update or even an answer just because you have been ignoring it and hoping it goes away it hasn't.

We have been lied to, fed rubbish all trying to placate us so what is the answer?

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

Hello, I've too received this icon on my BlackBerry a few weeks back (it wasn't preloaded, I've had the same business VF contract and device for a year now). As others have mentioned, simply removing the service books doesn't resolve it, as it appears again after a day or two. Vodafone: Please can you advise (1) how I can remove this permanently and (2) how I can opt-out of any future application pushes to my device. Thanks, Sam

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

Well guys I'm a bit late to the party but i also had the Poynt app installed on my 9520.  using .973

I'd like to say I'm amazed at the lack of action from VF, bit I'm not.

Re: Blackberry Torch - Links / shortcuts appeared on my phone

Hello,

We've previously posted a statement around the Vodafone content on the BlackBerry devices and this hasn't changed.

The POYNT icon has been added by RIM, which they reserve the right to do with devices they manufacture. This is not an application but a set of links which take you to the full app download if you choose to click through.

As with other similar icons, these links take up minimal space on the device and there are no plans to delete them.

However, it is possible to "hide" the content from your main display by doing the following:

- Highlight the icon

- Press the Menu button

- Press hide

Thanks

David
