yea im rockin one, its real nice, its a bit different to the normal OS5, but as soon as you get used to the pages (by that i mean put stuff in favourites page an live in there) then its real good, i`ll be honest an d say im running one of the latest leaks for it, but is oh so nice, try the keyboard first though, purely because it feels a tad different to the 9700, not in a bad way at all, but best to be sure an all

Echoing everything daveastra said...

I bought it from the states last month and its a great phone. Dont let all the naysayers distract you. Most of them havent even laid their hands on it!

I'm off to the states next week and was thinking of picking one up while i'm there

Is there anything I should be aware of when getting one over there and then bringing it back here to use on Voda?

If you don't mind me asking how much should I be looking to pay for an unlocked one out there and any recommendations on where to buy from?

for me its just as fast and responsive as any other touchscreen, however this could be part OS based too, so depends which version you run maybe? the newer versions seem reall good though :)

Blackberry Torch - Whats It Like?

Hi Everyone

I can't really comment from experience as yet since I do not have a Torch, I've been looking forward to getting my hands on one though and will share my opinions.

Thanks for all the input on the thread so far, I found it quite interesting.

You cannot strictly buy an unlocked one from AT&T.

You should buy a one without contract from an AT&T store.
It will cost you at least $499 USD
You will need to pay another $15 to an online unlocking company to unlock, try cellunlock.net. AT&T will not unlock the phone for you due to their exclusivity agreement.

Maybe someone can confirm this, but you need to be on the network the phone is locked to, to be able to unlock it, so you may need to get the code after buying the phone and then find an AT&T sim to put in the phone, to unlock it. Maybe im wrong on this, but im sure thats what i read somewhere..

When you get home, update the OS to the leaked 6.0.0.214 as this is a much faster OS than the stock one (not that the stock one is bad, just this one is faster!)

google for a download link. then look up the crackberry 101 series on how to update your OS.

edit: i just noticed you just upgraded, so ignore what i originally put on this line. Just do the above and you should be set. I cant post a link for you as it is a leaked version of the os.

the irony for me was that DM6 actually offered up the leaked OS for install when i plugged in my torch (after downloading and installing OS onto pc of course) so i didnt have to mess about at all!!

also i used bbunlock.me and that was £5 so cant complain :)

tell ya whats cool about the torch, other than the fact it gets a full web view of this forum just like off the pc, but really cool is the fact i downloaded the `leaked` version to my SD card using my phone, didnt even have to turn the pc on, then when id finished watching tv i had it ready to play with!!! thats what i call awesome (did do it over wifi mind)

nice to see it in vodafones new tv ad too :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7aLWbSv0Dg

and for those who imported one and wanna remove the at+t logo, try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFz0hGT6eYo iv done it and it works, but of course is up to you if you do it

i can honestly say this is by far the best phone iv ever had, and i really cant wait for themes to come out for it :)

I see the plan details are out now..

24 month contracts, the phone is free on 40 quid a month or higher contracts, at 30 quid a month, the phone will set you back 199 quid. !

http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/catalog/compatiblePlanListView.jsp?dependantSkuIds=sku3650028&phoneType=post&skuType=phoneSku&selection=&from=phoneSku&initialFilters=flt_paymonthly&_requestid=271736

on 18 month contracts, at 45 quid a month, the phone is free, at 30 quid a month, the phone will set you back a staggering 299 quid !

Sadly, VF are still penalizing blackberry users and only giving them 500MB of data in those tariffs.

I also heard a "rumour" about VFs intention to do what other providers to and split BIS and APN data and charging overage differently, but as its just a rumour i'll not go any further ;)

I also have the torch from AT&T unlocked and using on vodafone. Its brilliant!

With the official release os it lagged a bit after unlocking and receiving messages but with .225 it's snappy and never slows down.
The touch screen is as responsive as iPhone but all round a much better device :D

I moved from a 9700 bold and would never go back!

And yeah removing the logo from bottom is easy with a 2 pence piece ;)

Does anyone know if the Torch is compatible with Desktop Manager 5?

I am due to upgrade in the next few months, but as Desktop Manager 6 does not have the e-mail redirector I need to keep DM5 installed

i`ll be honest and say im not sure, however im sure the drivers prob work as theres no DM6 for Mac yet, so im guessing but id say yes.

even if not you could use the DM6 apploader without using the rest of DM6 and keep the components of DM5 (redirector) that you need. thats prob the best bet id say.

one of the true joys of DM6 though, is you dont need apploader to load leaks!! no deleting that vendor.xml file, install and away ya go :)
