Blackberry Torch & Sat Nav

Hi, new to vodafone and signed up via the website. Also took out the SatNav add on option as this offered live traffic reports etc. However, when the phoned turned up there was no Sat Nav app. Downloaded this via the vodafone website, only for it to tell me it is not compatable with this handset!!
My question are - is it correct the torch does not work with VF Find & Go? If it does work, how do i get it to work. If it is not compatable, why does the website allow me to sign up for the option when it knows what phone i am ordering!
Any help appreciated.

Hi Leadshot12 and firstly welcome to the Vodafone eForum. ![]()
Sadly, Vodafone Find and Go is not compatible with the new Blackberry OS(Operating System) that is found on the torch. ![]()
If this service was offered to you with the Blackberry Torch, I will get this looked at by the online team, as it will not install or work on your chosen device.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, but there may be some compatible apps you can use from the Blackberry App Store, and maybe one of our users can recommend one they've used?
Let me know if you've any further questions.
Regards
Trev

Hi,
I just upgraded to the blackberry torch, and yes one of the additional options is for vodafone find and go; thus giving the impression that find and go is available for the torch, when in fact it isnt.
A Satnav solution is available on the net as a beta tester for Telmap. I found it whilst searching for a satnav software for the torch. If you search using google one of the results gives you instructions on how to do it, I didnt sign up as i have managed to transfer vodafone find and go from my blackberry storm1 and have found it to work ok on the 2 occassions i have used it.
I hope this is of use

Thanks Nigel, the info on Telmap beta testing is great. I have registered with them and will see what happens

I'm fairly certain I checked that I would get SatNav on my Torch before I signed-up for it, it's an essential app for me. So you can imagine my consternation on finding it in't there! I was perfectly happy with the VF SatNav on my old BB and can't understand why making it work on OS6 (if that's the issue) isn't a top priority, you can't just "give up" on what is going to be the industry standard operating system. I have tried a couple of the apps in AppWorld and they are useless.
I'm very unhappy, I feel I've been cheated.
What plans are there to have a viable SatNav for the Torch?

Thanks for the tip re TelMap, I've installed it and it looks great
One tip though, write the registratin code down when you get it, you can copy but the app doesn't let you paste! Guess that's why it's still in beta.

I've just upgraded from a storm to torch and discovered the sat nav does not (and will not?) work.
Will someone please make an alternative app suggestion? I really need a sat nav solution for my phone.
Currently using Wisepilot but it is very disappointing AND expensive to add in the traffic and camera alerts (that were included as standard in Find and Go). Is vodafone working on a solution for this? I'm very annoyed that I was not informed that sat nav would not work on my new phone.

I had also purchased the torch with sat nav. I thought I was being stupid not being able to find it so wasted the afternoon trying to get it installed and working. Vodaphone have been quite happy taking my £5 each month for a service they know will not work with the phone they sold me. Is this not a breach of the sale of goods act? What do I need to do to sort it? Any advice?

Hi selestial and welcome to the eForum
Thanks for your post here.
I appreciate how frustrating this all is for you and everyone else on this thread. As mentioned before by Trev this has been fed back to our online teams to resolve the confusion at point of sale. Obviously this hasn't yet been done but I, again will raise this so that the website information can be changed.
I'll send you an email over now to the email address that you registered with so that we can get the money refunded to you.
Thanks
Wayne

I am at a total loss. I also bought the Blackberry torch and was using Find and go (albeit with intermittent problems) until last week...so it does work.....then it sopped and I have been told variously that there is a major problem with ALL find and go and then this morning told it wont work on the Torch....YES IT DOES.
Thought I would help by removing the software and download it again and that is when it now wont work because it wont downloan...Once on the phone it does and has worked...
I have been biled £5 per month for something that Vodafone are now saying will not work...It was one of my criteria when I upgraded to the Torch and specifically discussed at the time.
I have had so many different stories from Vodafone over the last 10 days and have not been able to use the application that I have now cancelled retrospectively my subscription which is a shame as when it works it is a very good app and I have used it successfully on the Blackberry storm for a number of years.
Can we have a final definitive answer to the question?

Hi richardjguest
I can appreciate this is a real headache for you.
I suspect the problem lies in the communication. The Find and Go application isn’t supported by OS6 so we cannot guarantee this will work 100% with the Torche's hardware. In some instances it sounds like it has worked however, due to the hardware changes, we wouldn’t support copying the software from one phone to the other.
Thanks

I ran Telmap Navigator on an 8800 and tried the beta version when I swapped to the 9800 Torch. The Beta 5 version is cronically unreliable when connecting to the servers to download address searches and maps. The connection to the trafic service and rerouting updates etc are also up and down like a bride's nighty. It can also take anything up to 15 minutes to find its GPS location even when the Google Maps application has a full GPS lock in place. Overall I'm not impressed and have removed the appication from my handset.

I too have issues with sat nav.
i previosul;y had teh Curve and Vodafone SatNav worked a treat (not the "find and Go" but Vodafone SatNav...2 different apps).
When i upgraded to the Torch in December/Jan this year, Vodafone satnav worked great.
I had a problem with the earpiece on the torch and sent it for repair about 5/6 weeks ago and on return re-installed software from last back-up.
Problem 1: Apps had not been backed up and/or didn't upload on first re-boot when connected to laptop.
Problem 2: Software upgrade...this was when i find that it doesn't support satnav???
I have now been without this for over 5 weeks now and am paying for it. When i called customer services today after a lengthy dicussion with customer service rep, telling nhim i wanted to re-install Vodafone Satnav (not find and go) he put me through to technical...without even appraising her of what the prob was..she eventually sent me 2 links to try and agreed that i should be able to download...
http://vfuk.navigator.telmap.com/vfuk
http://live.vodafone.co.uk/satnav
2nd link gets me to the page through phone which says i can download app for free...but no way of doing that without signing up (£5) which i am already paying...
So, the question...does vodafone SatNav (NOT find and go) work with the torch and where cani get the app???
regards
Rory

Hi rorymac1,
I’m sorry to hear you are having issues with the Sat Nav service.
Unfortunately I’m not too sure about this one and I currently don’t have any support in at this time of night however, I will pass your query onto our day team who will be able to clarify everything for you.

Good morning rorymac1,
Thanks for your patience.
I've sent an email to your registered eForum address. If you could reply to that email with the requested information we'll be able to get this one sorted for you.
What we will need to do is delete your current SatNav subscription and you'll then have to sign up again, therefore avoiding the double charge.
As I say, reply to that email and we'll have you sorted in a jiffy ![]()
While you're here, may I bring to your attention our BlackBerry Torch Help Centre? It's always handy if you need a fast answer.
Cheers,
Lee

Hi Lee,
thankyou for your response and email.
I have replied with info requested, however can you clarify if this will get back vodafone satnav and not find and go...which apparantly doesn't work with the Torch?
many thanks
Rory

I have received new Blackberry Torch 9810 this morning, and although i subscribe to sat av, it is not installed and I see from the forum that it is not compatible: it looks as though I will have to ask for a new model, as sat nav is an essential for me - can you advise the alternatives?

I have just downloaded Telmap Find and Go Beta version onto the Torch 9860 and it works like a dream. I will cancel my £5 subscription to the Sat Nav as it is no longer in use.
