Hello,
Im on contract (100 min, 500 texts, 1gb data) and want to know if the bbm takes any of my data usage, and i want to know if im on it for about 4 hours talking how much it takes a day. I am a heavy user of msn aswell also other websites like facebook and youtube, so tell me how much a 1gb is approx.

Thanks

Yes, BBM and MSN use data instead of SMSs i think. There used to be a feature on the VF website that showed you how much YouTube you could watch, emails you could e.c.t within your limit where you sided bars but I cannot find a link for you, maybe a moderator could help you find that.

I could find this though: what you can do with a GB; Download up to 50 maps with Google maps, open and reply up to 20,000 emails and make up to 20,000 bids on eBay, read around 16500 BBC stories

Does BlackBerry Messenger use my data allowance?

Hi Saddiq

BlackBerry messenger does use data as does MSN. All instant messenger services only use small amounts of data, I have seen many times the messages use 1kb of data.

Hi!

Using BBM u can send about 5000 msg (text only) using only about 1 MB, because there is only text.

From my view 500 MB are very lot of data for Berry, ofcorse if you don`t use BB as an IP modem and don`t get huge amount of e-mails with big attachments and every attachment you are opening.

Re: Does BlackBerry Messenger use my data allowance?

Im using a Blackberry Z10 without Blackberry Services. My contract includes:
-300 mins
-500MB Data
-Unlimited Texts

I wanted to know if I can use my data for BBM instead of buying blackberry services and if so how much data will thid take up?

Re: Does BlackBerry Messenger use my data allowance?

I am pretty certain that BB10 devices do not need the BIS plan provisioning on the handset, as the way that they work has changed.

BBM will use your normal data plan. How much it will use however is down to usage... if just sending plain text BBM you will not dent your allowance (although other data apps on the phone may do)

grolschuk is right bb10 devices do not use the BIS services they use the standard internet, the amount of data used will be the same as if you had BIS
