Re: Email Setup Problems

You need to make sure that your handset and account are both provisioned for BIS as well a BES. BIS relates to ordinary personal email and BES is enterprise software meaning Microsoft Exchange.

Not all handsets can support both flavours of the BB service. If you have a phone that is physically built for BRS only then you have a problem.

Re: Email Setup Problems

Hi Benesma7 and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble setting this up.

Jeffkin is spot on. You’ll need to have your handset provisioned for BIS, which we can do for you. I’ll send you a private message that explains exactly how you can get in touch with us.

You can find your PM inbox here

Thanks

Wayne

Re: Email Setup Problems

If you work for a company and use Microsoft Outlook connected to a central mail server you need BES where the E stands for enterprise.

If you use ordinary personal email you need BIS where the I stands for internet. With Vodafone you can set up a personal email address to work with your phone at this website:

http://www.mobileemail.vodafone.net/

If you dont already have an account you will need to set one up. This will start with the phones pin number and imei number? do you know how to get those details from the phone?

BIS and BES are different services that Vodafone can offer and you need to make sure that you have your account set up for BIS and not BES. the technicalities are not important as long as you know the principles.

Re: Email Setup Problems

Okay, I did what u said but when I enter my PIN and IMEI number, I get the following message:

"Cannot create account:

This BlackBerry® device is not registered with your wireless service provider. Please
register this device and verify that the URL of the current web site matches the
one provided by your wireless service provider.

To register:

1. In the Application list on your device, click Options, or click Settings Options.

2. Click Advanced Options > Host Routing Table.

3. Click the Menu key and click Register Now.

If the error persists, contact your wireless service provider."

I follow the steps, and end up with this message:

"Registration message sent!"

So what to do next?

And how btw, do i check if i have BES or BIS? As i didn't buy the phone as new, i don't know wether it was bought through for a company or not. I don't even know if it's bought in Denmark, where i live or not.

I appreciate your help, thanks

Re: Email Setup Problems

Wait - backup the thread. You are in Denmark? You are not intending to use the phone on the vodafone UK network? The website I gave you was for VF in the UK so its hardly surprising it didnt see your phone on the network.

Re: Email Setup Problems

Yep. I am in Denmark, but my sim card is not from VF. It's only when i turn the device on and off, it shows VF logo.

But what does this mean? should i change anything so i can use it here or what do i do?

Re: Email Setup Problems

So you aren't in the UK and you arent a Vodafone customer. Is that right?

And this is a Vodafone UK forum so it might have been useful to let us know that.

Does Vodafone even operate under its own name in Denmark?

If the phone shows a Vodafone logo clearly it came from Vodafone but if it is unlocked you will be able to put any sim in it. You havent said if the phone is actually working as a phone. Is it? If it isn't and the phone is still locked to Vodafone you will have to try and get it unlocked and probably only the original owner can do that.

if the phone is working with your Danish sim you need to talk to your own operator and ask them how to get the Blackberry working with your emails. The same BIS/BES situation will apply no matter who the mobile operator is.

Re: Email Setup Problems

That's right I am not in UK and neither a Vodafone costumer. And it's true that Vodafone don't operati in Denmark, and that's exactly why I entered this forum. I don't know where else to go with this.

The phone works fine, and it's not locked. I can call, write, everything works perfect, except from mail.

Okay, I'll give it a try. Thanks

Re: Email Setup Problems

Hey again .. What I knew would happen happend.. Yall playing your little "phone provider game"!!! You send me to my own provider and they send me to you, like some kind of ping pong game.

I talked to my own operator as you said, and they say that they can't open it for me, and it has to be opened by the phone company where it was bought from the start (which is Vodafone).

Everytime someone has a problem with his phone all you phone companies do is to direct him forth and back between you. Why can't you just open the damm phone, since it's originally your phone.

Re: Email Setup Problems

For my part, I am a Vodafione customer and user and I am here to help my fellow users.

Are you now saying, for the first time, that the phone is locked to Vodafone in the UK? That was not part of your original question and has not been mentioned up to now.

If your phone IS locked, your operator is quite correct in telling you that only the network that supplied the phone can unlock it. They should also have told you that only the holder of the original contract can ask the network to unlock the phone. You need to talk to the person that sold you the phone in the first instance.

Re: Email Setup Problems

[ Edited ]

Jeff ... he's saying the phone is unlocked (on the carrier level) but it sounds like it still has BES policies.

Benesma7 ... you forgot to finish with 'Rant Over' ... it gives a nice flourish :smileywink:

Firstly, most of the posters on here are nothing to do with Vodafone (UK or otherwise) and are doing their best to provide answers based on information given.  Your original post was short on detail - the fact that you have a UK phone in Denmark IS relevant.

BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) is a system whereby your Blackberry is linked (via RIM's network & using the mobile carrier to provide a signal only) direct to your company's email/web servers.  Various policies on the phone mean that a BES enabled device is usually locked down pretty tightly with regard to email, browsing, third-party applications, etc.

BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) is the consumer/small business offering.  Your mobile carrier takes the place of the company by providing the connection between RIM & your BB.

In order to get BIS enabled on the phone your DANISH carrier will have to push their policies (Provisioning & BIS Service Books) to the phone.  Vodafone UK have no access to your phone as it's no longer connected to their network.

In the UK, BIS usually costs around £5 per month on top of your voice tariff (this is for access to RIM's network).

Is this the case in Denmark?  Are you paying your carrier for BIS?

Re: Email Setup Problems

Paul - I dont think he is saying that. He says that his Danish network is telling him that the original carrier needs to 'open' the phone. Surely that means unlock it. If it was already unlocked they would be able to provision BIS. If he did a total wipe on the phone it should clear any BES activation that is on there. Regardless, BIS and BES can exist on the same phone so he should be able to get his POP3 email.

But the lack of detail and clarity, together with the rudeness towards those who are trying to help, means I will bow out of this thread.
