General BlackBerry Trouble :(

Okay, so I bought a BlackBerry Curve 8520 from the Carphone Warehouse and purchased a Vodafone PAYG Sim for it. Because of that, I don't think that the BlackBerry was pre-installed with any Vodafone data such as an SMS Service or Internet. Whenever I've tried the Sim in my old Vodafone, I can get texts and internet, but yet when I transfer the Sim back into the BlackBerry, no texts or internet service transfer across. Any help you can provide will be very much appreciated!  :smileyhappy:

Re: General BlackBerry Trouble :(

Hi,

Chances are you might need to input Vodafone's generic settings for text messaging and internet - it sounds like the SIM is working fine in another phone so it's the device which is the problem.

Firstly check the message centre number is correct for text messages by going to:

Press the BlackBerry key
Scroll to Options, press the Trackpad
Scroll to SMS, press the Trackpad
Scroll to Service Centre, enter +447785016005
Press the BlackBerry key, scroll to Save, press the Trackpad

If that works for texts then next up it's worth looking at the phone guide set up here.

Yes I agree with redpages, that if your sim works fine in another phone, its not the sim or the network, and so its either most probably device settings, or a tiny possibility of a faulty device, however its 99% just a settings issue

Re: General BlackBerry Trouble :(

I've just tried what you advised, and when I go to create a message it says 'No message services configured. You will only be able to Save Draft' :smileysad:

Re: General BlackBerry Trouble :(

Just little somethings I forgot to mention, I can't set up a BlackBerry email account, and I've already tried the Host Routing Table operation but to no avail. Also, at the top of the screen I have 'gprs', not 'GPRS'. Just thought I'd say just incase they help. :smileyhappy:

Re: General BlackBerry Trouble :(

Have you set up the Blackberry service on your PAYG account ?

Re: General BlackBerry Trouble :(

I can't believe I overlooked something.. I forgot to register my Sim!

That's been done, and I can now text.

How do I go about getting internet now that I've registered?

Re: General BlackBerry Trouble :(

Hi Rosied100 and welcome to the eforum

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you are having difficulties in downloading applications. I can appreciate how frustrating this must be for you. Don't worry though, we're here to help! :smileyhappy:

Have you set your BlackBerry up with your email accounts etc? If not then your BlackBerry isn't ready to use yet. Here's a great video that shows you how to set your emails up.

Once you have done this your BlackBerry automatically sets all of the internet and allows the downloading of Apps etc.

Please give this a go and let me know how you get on! If you have any more questions just let me know and we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks
