Hello everyone,
My BB Torch arrived today. I followed the instructions to get the host table settings about an hour ago (bought my phone from Vodafone website & def have BIS installed) but theres still no sign of the settings. Is there anything I can do to sort it or do I need to call 191 tomorrow?
Cheers, Naby.

Hi Naby
it can take a little time to go live.... when you registered the device via host table did you get an email saying the device was registered????
if its not connected in the morning give the guys a call on 191 and check that BIS is live on your account.
Thanks

No I didn't get an email- a message flashed up saying that an email had been sent, but nothing else. After an hour I pulled the battery out & rebooted to see if that would force it through but no joy. Not sure if I need to be in a 3G signal area maybe for it to work? BIt confused by 3G having never had it before, is this what BIS uses to transfer data? One of my neighbours has a BB and uses it for BBM etc so I assume that it will work here, but I have the strangest feeling that my area isn't covered by 3G.
Cheers!!

Dear Naby,
If you are worried about the 3G signal strength in your area, go to Vodafoen's Coverage Checker and have a butch:
http://www.vodafone.co.uk/personal/price-plans/net
3G is just a fsater way of transferring data through the mobile network. Your BB will work on GPRS as well, and the handset should switch between the two automatically.
As for getting your BB working, what signal is showing in the top right hand side of the screen? You should have either GPRS, EDGE or 3G and it should be in capital letters. If it isn't, then you will need to speak to Vodafone and double check that BIS is set up on the line. Also ask them to look at the handset PIN and make sure it is provisioned for BIS. I know you state that you did this initially, but believe me, it is worth double checking.
Hope that helps.
Cheers

Dear Naby,
Not a problem. Just to warn you to ask to speak to someone who knows about BBs otherwise it could a long conversation.
You might have some luck and a Mod here may email you for some more details and check for you.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

Dear Naby,
Sorry to hear that it hasn't sorted itself.
The tip you posted refreshes your SIM card, so any changes made to your line will come through faster. Although I have not heard before of booting up the handset without SIM in order to get an issue fixed.
You mention that you have a data package. However for BlackBerry services, such as BIS, you will need the BlackBerry package on your line. So when you call Vodafone again, ask to speak to a BlackBerry specialist and specifically ask them to look at the line to see if there is such a packaged attached.
Hope that helps. Keep us posted.
Cheers

I spoke to someone today and asked again about BIS- she said I actually have BES instead- so they've set me up as a business instead of a personal customer, and this appears to be what was causing all the problems!!! Grr!!
No idea how this has happened cos I definetly never asked to sign up as a business customer. They've swapped my contract over though & I quadruple checked that I have BIS activated on my account.
Just need to wait until midnight for new plan to be in effect so that I can hopefully get somewhere!!

Cheers for all your help mate, much appreciated. Can't believe that I was on the wrong price plan all along!! Best bit is that the new price plan is £1 cheaper but has more minutes and more texts
