Capitals mean the blackberry service is applied to your plan, lower case it is not.
If in caps there could be a problem with the handset, the sim, or the local network
If in lower case, then call 191 and get them to check everything is ok with your account

MarkJames - As mentioned, this might be down to different things depending on whether you're a contract or Pre-pay customer.
If you can also confirm, as rhian163 did, how your signal strength is displayed, that can help us to see what the issue may be.
