New BlackBerry Draining Credit!

Hi everyone,
I am currently subscribed to the blackberry internet service at £5 a month. Every month I top up between £5 & £10 (because you have to have at least £5.30). After the £5 for the BIS has been taken, it leaves me with (approx) £5 of credit.
However, since buying my new BlackBerry 9300 yesterday the credit is being drained away, without me even calling or texting anyone (just the use of internet and bbm). I do not understand where the credit is going because having used my old BlackBerry 8800 for ages, this was never a problem!
Can anyone please advise if there is there a way I can stop this credit being drained from the phone?
Thank you.

Hi there krishnadevi7,
Thanks for your post.
Anything you use your BlackBerry device for, including BBM, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Maps, browsing and uploading and sending pictures uses up data. The allowance or credit will be used for both uploading and downloading using any of a number of data services.
Whilst on the home screen, long hold the BlackBerry key and tell me what applications are currently in use.
Cheers,
Lee

Hi Lee,
Thank you for your reply.
When long pressing the BlackBerry key, the following icons are shown as in use: Home, Browser, Blackberry Messenger,
Socialscope (for Facebook & Twitter), Messages and Phone.
I appreciate what you say regarding data usage, but there never used to be any credit drain when using my old BlackBerry 8800 in the same way with the same programs.
Thanks,
Krishnadevi

Hi krishnadevi7,
Any data sent by the device to the network would be treated the same, so this suggests a possible change in the way the device is handling things.
Can you try fully closing each of the active programs in turn, then checking to see if the data is still increasing? This will help to pinpoint if a specific function is responsible. I'd suggest trying Socialscope first as that is likely to be actively polling for updates.
Let us know what you find out. I'm confident we can track down the cause of the credit drain for you.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Of the programs mentioned in my last post, only SocialScope can be logged out of and closed down. This has been done.
Home, Messages, Phone, BBM and Browser remain active.
The credit seems to decreasing by amounts of about 15p (per day) in the past two days. having dropped from £4.71 to £2.89 in the first two days.
Thanks again,
Krishnadevi

Hi krishnadevi7
Thanks for your reply. It would seem a little bizarre that your credit is decreasing by 15p per day if it's for data usage as this would decrease by £1 per day on PAYG.
So that we can see what the 15p charges are for we'll require access your account. I've sent a private message with details of how to contact us directly and you can find your PM inbox here. If you can't access this link, please ensure that the box next to "Turn on private messages" is ticked on this page, and let us know if you need any further assistance.
Thanks
Simon

Hi again Simon,
I was called yesterday afternoon by a Vodafone advisor, who then spoke to my husband (who understands more about phones than i do), who went through the problem of credit draining away.
The advisor said that the BIS service did not seem to be present on my account (the account kept saying check back later), that £5 would be credited to it, and that i should log in to the account later in the day, and add BIS on to the account.
However, on logging in later (at 11pm), the £5 had been added so the balance was £7.45p, but the BIS service was shown as already being on the account as i thought it was.
On checking the account balance this morning, i find that the balance has decreased by £1 to £6.45!
What is going on?
Please advise,
Thanks.

Hi James,
Thanks for your reply.
Having spoken to Holly on Sunday afternoon, it seems that there was no way round the slow drain of credit without turning off some of my new BlackBerry's features. Holly seemed to say that my older BlackBerry 8800 was less data intensive compared to newer BlackBerries.
Therefore, i have conceded defeat, and purchased the monthly web pack.
Thanks for everyone's help on the forum.
