Is it done by VOIP?

Hi urbancolour,
We have a number of price plans which have the BIS service built in as well as a data allowance. Alternatively, you can use any other plan by paying £5 a month for the BIS service to be added. The messages are handled as data so as long as you have a data pack and don't overuse the allowance then you'll be fine.
Are you with your upgrade period and looking to upgrade to a BlackBerry, or looking at picking up a SIM-free handset and popping your existing SIM in it and adding the necessary packs? If it's an upgrade, our Data Test Drive offer would also give you three month's unlimited data.

Yes BBM allows you to record voice notes which you can send and recieve.. You can even send short videos pictures and smaller music files an amazing service if in a situation like yours
Also you will know when both teh message has been delivered and then read which if with time difference might stop you wondering if they are awake or busy etc.

Hi urbancolour
Thank you for your post, unfortunately there is no way of saying how much each message would you as it depends on the file size and its contents.
500mb does cover the majority of our customers and the data test drive is a fantastic way to measure your usage without charges.
I have sent you a Private Message so one of our excellent sales team can go through your available options.
You can find your PM inbox here.
Many Thanks

To avoid any confusion as it's not really been mentioned, and it's the primary part of your question - the voice conversations will be recorded memos sent between handsets using BlackBerryMessenger, and not actually a free flowing telephone call (such as skype or other VoIP solutions).
There may be some VoIP apps out there that allow the free flowing phone call, but not sure what limitations they have or if they are free calls, or just cheap calls.
