So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

This is a rather long story so I am going to cut it as short as humanly possible, as I'm so frustrated with Vodafone I'm sick of talking about my phone!

I have the blackberry Bold 9700 in white. I have had lots of problems with it since I got it, started off with minor problems like the bluetooth never worked, I didn't get around to getting into the shop to get it sorted as it wasn't something I ever used, up until the time I wanted to use it and couldn't. Other things started going wrong with it, the middle 'heat pad' button started working sometimes and not other times, random symbols used to come up while I was trying to type a text, and whenver I made a call the phone would randomly be doing this 'MUTE' 'MUTE OFF' 'MUTE' 'MUTE OFF'. All very frustrating when trying to make a call or receive one!! Then to top it off a button on the keypad just dropped off. Poorly made?!

Anyway I decided byt this point it was unacceptable to keep using the phone as it clearly wasn't working as it should be. I rang customer services who tried various things, which did not solve any of the issues. I was advised to go in store, ok so 2nd attept to fix the phone, it was sent off for a repair. Ok about 10 days later I got the phone back - all very excited I was. Lovely - they put a new casing on it, so new screen, new keypad, looked smashing! Took the phone home. Got home switched it on tried the various bits that had been going wrong with it, no random symbols when typing - lovely! No muting during calls - lovely. A keypad that works - lovely. Oh but whats this, bluetooth still doing the same thing?!?!?!? Very frustrating, so off I went AGAIN to take back to the store, no apology nothing, just we wil lsend it off again for repair. So I waited roughly another 10 days. The phone was ready, so off I went back into store, hoping everything would now be fixed. I refused to leave the store until I knew everything was fixed. Oh but wait bluetooth still not working, and also have a lovely addition of BES (blackberry enterprise server) never heard of this, wasn't on my phone before?!?! So cannot sync my emails or download apps (very frustrating as its the reason I bought the phone in the first place as a smartphone). So again the phone gets sent off again.

By this point im pretty fuming at vodafones repair centres incompetence, why are they sending the phone back still faulty???? Waited a week, went back to the store, getting very fed up. Bluetooth still not working, (white screen freezes and switches the phone off and back on again), and enterprize server is still on it. Almost at the point of tears but hold back....they agree to give me a new phone, yes I think there is a god someone is answering my prayers and listening to my frustrations. Oh but no, they don't just dash and give me a new one of the same phone from the back, but mine has to be sent back to the repair centre for them to do a straight swap and then I have to wait again for them to send the new phone back to me. Ok I think I'm still very upset and angry BUT I'm getting a new phone so I am excited as it must be fine now as its a different phone! Took them another week....went back into store, looked at the phone which was quite clearly not a new phone as they wanted the back off my old one and the battery and mem card from my old one to put on it, there was also a protective plastic screen on the top of it which looked like it had been on the floor for a few years picked up and stuck on the screen, there was hairs and allsorts stuck to the screen - NICE! Had a play with it anyway while in store bluetooth working fine - YES! Everything working fine - YES. Oh but wait what is this?? blackberry enterprise server software on the phone?! for goodness sake I thought, how am I supposed to use the phone with this on??

I go back up to the desk, explain AGAIN one lady tells me well just so you know everyone is having problems with synching emails at the moment and no smartphones are working with emails at the moment. How ridiculous? so I'm paying for a smartphone on contract for it not to work but thats perfectly aceptable is it? Another lady tells me behind the desk that I need to wait 48hours for the new settings to take affect with it being a new phone (which clearly wasnt a new phone) and then blackberry enterpruise server will remove itself and it will be 'normal' again. So here I am 3 days later, no settings have changed, still have BES on the phone, still can't download apps, and still can't sync my emails on the phone. Oh and to top it off the voloume button at the side of the phone is faulty and it sticks, upon further inspection I discovered it was all bent inside and someone had done a 'bodge' job of ramming the button back on. The lady behind the desk in teh store told me if it hadn't changed after 48hrs then ring customer services as there was nothing that they could do for me now in store. So vodafone has now washed there hands of me, and I have a phone that still doesn't work after nearly 2 months of messing around. Very unhappy, very frurstrated. Just want to end the contract go to another company and start again. Hate the phone now. So upset :smileysad: please help.

Re: So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

Ok you had a bad experience but yet NONE of your issues are with your airtime which is WHAT you pay for from Vodafone.

The device is an "incentive" to make you take the contract out.
It would be different if the phone would only work if your sim was in but as your sim works in any phone that allows vodafone sim cards, it is irrelevant.

Onto your issues. Im not fimiliar with BES however it should NOT affect linking up your emails at all.
As the BES is nothing more than the same email client build around business and work email platform.

Set up would be the same.
This sounds as if they have the BES on your actual vodafone account instead of BIS (the consumer model). Did they at all check this out?

You got the faulty keyboard etc sorted and the bluetooth not working made me believe you just didnt know if you knew how to work it as its different to most phones in the fact if it is set to "Invisbility" mode then nobody will see you. (Aslong as you get the icon in the corner then bluetooth is in fact WORKING).

The Repair centre is a joke, i know this first hand better than most for reasons i dont think im allowed to express freely on this board.
The only reason to send to them is faulty hardware as the majority of people dont have spare parts to take the device apart to fix them.
Software issues which are atleast 90% of the issues most users face, can be solved with a little time, effort and research on the internet.

Customer Service @ 191 is a joke too. They are full of people that have no clue about technology or any slight interest in it.
1st Line Tech is the same, they recruit people from customer service and give a few days training regardless if they have any tech background or interest.
2nd Line Tech are the same as 1st line with a few more systems and the ability to search for help on the internet. [Yup that is correct. If they dont know the answer they do exactly what you can do to find an answer]

/end rant hehe

For yourself buddy id recommend you 1st check and see if you actually have BIS set up on your account. It is very basic and in store or 191 customer service should be able to help with no trouble, however if its BES on your account and not BIS then expect transfer to technical [1st line] if you touch lucky and have someone with a bit of knowledge or a slight bit of interest than besides getting you off the phone then you should get it sorted there and then.

If it is BIS on your account then look into doing a software reload.
my advice is to revert back to the earliest then after complete load the newest available.
Use Desktop manager and do a backup if you have information you wish to put back on afterwards.

Google is your friend.
i use crackberry.com forums if i want to learn something new myself or generally use google for a particular issue.

best of luck.

Re: So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

I agree in some parts with QyKo, did anyone at any stage check the Bluetooth functionality before sending it away for repair, I mean in store.

It does sound as if BES is on your account if you are getting that but this can relatively easily be checked and resolved.

I think the problems could have been resolved better for you, did someone confirm to you if your original problems were hardware or software related, if it had been software then it could have probably been resolved without sending it away.

Good luck

Re: So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

The difference between hardware and software are self explanatory.

The buttons falling off = hardware.

The 1st time it had to go off for repair.
Unless it was within the 28 days he could have called 191 and got a replacement device sent out to exchange it.
After that he would have to do the repair which was initially done.

Re: So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

Yep totally agree, the issue though of the Bluetooth not working when it came back makes me think that either nobody in the shop bothered to check / test it to clarify enough what the issue was, or was it even booked in with this Bluetooth fault if it was checked as a fault in the shop.

The experience for any customer should be better, but then for me I wonder as to the depth of training that is given to them to do it.

Re: So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

Hi, thanks for your replies. Its is blackberry enterprise server which is installed on the phone, so when I go to try and add an email account it says I need my business password / business details from an administrator and thats the ONLY option I am given, all very frustrating! I really do not understand why this is on the phone as it never used to be. I'm fed up of vodafone's technical side clearly getting it wrong so I would like to know if there is anything I can do myself to get this BES off my phone?? And how I can get apps on again.

And yes I AM blaming vodafone for the problems on the phone, because yes problems arise from time to time with phones and yes mainly software related, but they were not rectified in my case time after time. All I want is to get this damn software off the phone so I can use it to its full function once again as vodafone customer services and face to face in the shop seem to have no clue and just keep 'fobbing' me off. Thanks for your advice though I will check out crackberry x

Re: So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

ok, so first major point, is you cant actually install BES to a phone.

all that can be done is IT policies can be enabled, which in turn can of course be disabled.

from what you`ve said regarding being prompted for work info, this sounds atypical of the earlier builds, basically what happened was the device had no service books on it relating to BIS, so automatically the device asks for your BES info.

so first thing to try, is go into options>device>advanced system settings>service books and have a look whats there, id say pretty fair odds theres nothing there. now hit the back key once, and scroll down to `host routing table`, now you may/may not have stuff in there,

if its empty, press the menu key and select `register now` then give a min or two and reboot, ya should see data being transferred, basically this will be sorting your service books and such,

if its not empty, go out to the homescreen and use `manage connections` to turn off the devices radio+wifi, then go back into that page, delete everything by holding alt + del on eachs seperate entry, reboot device and turn radio on, then go in and use the `register now` selection.

99 times out of 100 if ya give it a few mins it`ll update the service books and thus sort the email situation (you`ll be able to confirm this by going back to the page titled `service book` and look for entry `IPPP for BIBS and IPPP for 5 click.

should none of the above work, then its an IT policy, to delete that id suggest (and i can only suggest as i havent done it myself) using this thread from crackberry.

Re: So Angry and Frustrated what am I supposed to do now???

daveastra - thank you so much - my phone is fixed!! It worked! I am so utterly frustrated that it took me about 30 seconds to fix it myself at hone but vodafone had to send it for repair four times to get rid of it unsuccessfully, it just shows that nobody actually knows what they are doing. I also have apps, and emails are happily flowing through - live saver - so happy xx
