Solved my own Battery problem with Blackberry 9900 - Vodafone Tech Support are useless

I'll give you the summary, because you can read the full story in my blog post if you wish - http://50percent.co.uk/?p=68

I've had the Blackberry Bold 9900 for 4 days and the battery is awful! It wouldn't last more than 7 hours on a full charge and I'd tried all the tips about turning everything off / lowering settings.

I contact Vodafone Tech support who were utter utter useless.

- They incorrectly advised me to upgrade my software to 7.1  -  which isn't even released in the UK yet.

- They couldn't diagnose the problem and aside from settings assured me there was NO battery issue, clearly from this forum there is.

- Their only solution was to send me a replacement handset!!

After I did some research online I found that Social Feeds is the problem, have deleted it and now I still have 38% battery after 24hours!

It might not be the perfect solution if you like the App, but deleting Social Feeds extended my phone from only 7hours to over 24hour with a 3rd still left.   http://50percent.co.uk/?p=68

Hi 50percent,

When it comes to a fault with any phone we do have to go through certain troubleshooting steps to help diagnose where the issue lies.

I do agree that you shouldn’t have been asked to upgrade the software to a version that hasn’t been released however I do put this down to human error where everyone makes mistakes including you and I.

However, I am pleased that this has resolved your issue for you and I can see that you have advised the solution to others in different threads around the eForum and for that I thank you.

You say about deleting Social Feeds..... did you use Social Feeds or was it just sitting there idle? Or, did you use it at some point but then stopped?

Curious, as you wouldnt of thought an app thats not running in the background could use any battery?

Re: Solved my own Battery problem with Blackberry 9900 - Vodafone Tech Support are useless

I didn't actively choose to use SocialFeeds, but when I found it and went in for the first time, my Facebook & Twitter accounts were showing in the App as activated

Facebook & Twitter & Social Feeds were on the build of the Blackberry out of the box.

It would seem Social Feeds automatically picks up both these Apps when you first enter your details to use the Apps individually.

I could not find a setting to change the Frequency of the refresh on Socials Feeds. It's either ON or Deleted.

Since deleting the Social Feeds I have noticed a massive improvement,  today my phone came off charge at around 7am, it's not almost 7pm and I have 68% battery left.  Before with Social Feeds installed I would have had to charge my phone.

To address Vodafone Tech - it is your job to know. I shouldn't not have been told Software was available and I should not have been told that there is no known battery problem with the Blackberry Bold 9900, this Forum shows there clearly is and as you point out I've pasted my solution into a number of the most recent forum postings, but there are ALOT.

and on that same point aswell as Social Feeds doing it's own thing and not having a setting to stop refreshing, Facebook continues to update in the background despite me unticking the boxing for Notifications and selected Never on the option to refresh feed.

Re: Solved my own Battery problem with Blackberry 9900 - Vodafone Tech Support are useless

Hi Have been with Vodafone for a few years now and they have always been helpful when it comes to any problems I have had. I was looking at the blackberry bold 9900 and come across all the issues people have been talking about. So I thought I would give Vodafone a ring and ask about the problems and the woman on the phone said that she had never heard of any of the problems and the was a brilliant phone and I should buy, I will say and this is my opinion that she sounded like she was hiding something. So I decided to ring up 02 and ask the same question, the man on the phone eventually but very discreetly said that there was problems and they where getting returns. This was after he told me a colleague of his has had the phone for 3months and had no problems. Then rang up orange and asked the same questions again. The woman on the phone instantly and without hesitation said that they had had lots of returns and there had been many people reporting problems. She even offered if I bought the phone there and then she would offer me a discount on the phone £30 a month for 24 months intend of £36 a month for 24months. I did ain't even ask, all I can she was very keen to sell me the phone . I've ended up buying the blackberry on Vodafone and will be with me on Thursday . I've heard the updates fix most of the problems. I've had every new phone when it comes out and decided all I use it for is calls texts twitter and Facebook and email and that I not need the fastest processor and the 1080p video etc . So am hoping the bold 9900 will be perfect for this and the problems will be fixed . If not I've always got 7days to cancel and change the phone to the galaxy nexus lol

OS 7.1 is the answer

Yesterday I updated my Operating System to 7.1 (via Blackberry Desktop Manager) and It's like I have a new phone!  My phone today has been off charge for 7 hours, has been quite busy, and is still showing 75% charge.

Hallelujah!  Don't delay, OS 7.1 is the anwer, my Bold can now go mobile again, without having to recharge every few hours!
