Stop Trying To Compare The Iphone To The Storm

The iPhone has had since January 09 2007 to get to where it is now, the Storm has had a year to resolve its issues, there is no way you can compare the two!

True RIM have been terrible at customer feedback and they have let Vodafone deal with all the issues despite Vodafone not having anything to do with the design or the issues with the handset.

The Storm 2 is due to be released within the next month hopefully and this will prove to be a major step forward. I am sure there will be some sort of offer available to existing customers to enable an upgrade, it wont be free and why should it be, Vodafone provides a service and not the handsets, the manufacturers are to blame here and I think we loose sight of that.

I have had the Storm since its release date and I also had my handset sent to RIM for investigation for 4 months to resolve the issues. Well I got my phone back from RIM and within half an hour of receiving it I had already contacted Customer Support to arrange for it to be replaced, the bottom part of the screen does not click at all!

Well done RIM, not only have they had the handset for over four months but when they sent me back a new one they managed to send me a faulty one! Oh well, not Vodafones fault but RIM, Vodafone have done all they can and will exchange it again. I have lost count how many I have had since it was released but I can say that I have yet to have one for over a month that has worked!

I will persevere with the Storm as it will be a great handset, also no other company can handle e-mails like RIM. Remember that the current iPhone is the third generation and the Storm is still its first generation. The iPhone still has issues as well, sure it is good at most of what it does but there are still things people want changed. Also remember that the iPhone has its own tarrif and its own insurance, none of which makes it cheap to own or run. Also people still complain about the operating system on the iPhone, you only need to search the net to see there is a growing number of people replacing the operating system on there handsets to one that is not so restricted.

One more thing, I would again like to say a big thank you to all the moderators and business customer support staff for helping me out over the last year with this handset, sure I didnt expect all these issues and nor did they, but it happened and they have been amazing in there assistance and support, so hats off to all you guys and gals, keep up the good work.

Thanks

haha nice!

I agree with Bobbins on certain points i.e. the Storm only being in its 1st gen..

But unfortunaly I think Vodafone are really too slow in getting the updates to us. I have recently installed 5.0.0.216 and I am quite impressed, still has a few bugs but you can see RIM are slowly getting there. Before you say it Vodafone, yes I have voided my warranty etc etc but to be honest its worth it. I would have thrown my Storm off a cliff if it wasnt for these updates.

I will agree tho, this forum is great and the mods helpful.

Just think, one day we will have a firmware release that works and all this nagging will be over......

Just because another phone had problems at the start it doesn't make it right for another manufacturer to do the same.

I think it was marketed by RIM / Vodafone as the rival to the iphone so they only have themselves to blame.

You are correct with the email being the best but also a feature overlooked is the phone's GPS ability. Mine works indoors and is very sensitive which is amazing for this type of device. I guess it's just not that widely used by storm owners and doesn't make up for dropped calls.

Also agree with your support for the mods but again, that doesn't make up for the frustration caused by this phone. Others have argued that we shouldn't need a forum like this.

they have let Vodafone deal with all the issues

The iPhone still has issues

I agree with most of what you say Bobbin.

Now - can someone explain to me why the word PROBLEM has disappeared from our Language??

Why is a problem now an ISSUE?

It really gets my goat. You hear it all the time on TV.

Rant over.

Can't wait for the Storm 2. :D

I agree that no manufacturershould release buggy phones. I do hate the fact though that everyone thinks the iPhone was released as it is now. It didn't have MMS or proper bluetooth when launched.

There is a joke I read somewhere about iPhone users being so smug. ('God, iPhone users, all you did was buy it, you didn't invent it!!). Hate the whole cult of mac thing!

Stop Trying To Compare The Iphone To The Storm

I think its completely acceptable to compare the Iphone to the Storm as both of them are trying to be the must have smartphone of the time. It makes no sense to say "look at how the Iphone was when it was first released, of course the Storm will have problems too", the fact of the matter is that RIM have had 2 extra years in developing technology - phones - and should have done better for a 1st attempt, especially if it really wanted to compete with the iphone of TODAY. Why should we have to wait until 2011 to have a Storm that works how it should work?

I honestly don't remember a product that has been released recently that has had so many problems with such little done about it. Yes I know that there are some good ones out there, I've been relatively lucky with my one, but like someone said above - the product needs a well supported forum for the owner to constantly check in order for it to work semi satisfactorally.

Sod it, thats my view anyway.... I'm paying Vodafone £50 a month after an initial fee of around £150 to get the damn phone so I reckon I'm entitled to it.

Stop Trying To Compare The Iphone To The Storm

I think everybody should stop being so anal and go have a nice cup of tea. Who gives a hoot that somebody wants to compare the iPhone with the Storm. If they want to do that then that is up to them, stop getting so bent out of shape about it. Strewth guys! Is this what it's come to? Moaning because somebody has the audacity to compare one smart phone with another? Next you'll be moaning because somebody compared a Volvo with a Ford.

As for ranting because somebody chooses to use the word issue rather than problem; Gordon Bennett! What blessed lives you must live if this is the sort of thing you find to whinge about.

Or people using ramt when they mean rant !

I agree with the your vs. you're comment though, also their/there/they're, etc. They all get my back up, I'm trying to stay calm about it as we speak *deep breaths*

Oh, and it seems to be the done thing at my place of work to refer to 'issues' rather than 'problems' as well - one guy even calls them 'challenges' !

i get annoyed, we've had before, "its not a fault, its an opportunity"
when questioned, he always replied. its an opportunity to show how good we are at fixing faults...

another good one we use 'its not a fault, its a feature'

Funny how no-one else has mentioned my biggest problem on this forum:

Why do the majority of contributors, when replying, have to quote the post which is directly above?

You have to scroll through masses of repeated text, just to get to the point!

Fair enough, if you're only replying to one issue raised amonsgt many, then quote the relevant point.

Guys, just hit "add reply" without hitting quote first!

And yes, I fully expect someone to "quote" this whole response in a reply!

Rant over!
